A BİBLİOMETRİC RESEARCH ON THE CONCEPT OF LEADERSHİP

Abstract

The concept of leadership has held a significant place in management literature for many years. However, leadership continues to be a subject that is extensively researched, yet its understanding within the field of social sciences remains limited. While this phenomenon undergoes change within organizations, leadership theories are also being reshaped. Leadership is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon. This concept, which has been examined for years, has gained even greater importance in today's fast-paced, rapidly globalizing world. Leadership plays a substantial role in managing change, achieving organizational goals, and effectively addressing societal or other challenges. In the rapidly changing landscape of today's world, leadership has taken on an even greater significance than ever before. Leadership encompasses the ability to manage change, achieve corporate goals, and effectively address societal or other challenges, making it of utmost importance. Although there are various definitions of leadership, its most general expression is related to the ability to influence others to achieve objectives. The processes and qualities necessary to influence others accurately are at the heart of the understanding of leadership. In this research, we explore the recent evolution of the leadership concept and investigate the emerging leadership theories that have arisen from this transformation. In this context, a bibliometric analysis was conducted, and 2557 articles published in the Web of Science (WOS) database over the past five years were examined. As a result of the examined articles, it is observed that the most prominent leadership theories are transformational leadership (252 times), ethical leadership (181 times), servant leadership (136 times), and authentic leadership (97 times). The findings of the study are believed to provide a strong foundation for future research on leadership theories. The limitations of the study emerge from its inclusion of articles from journals indexed in the SSCI index of business and management within the WOS database, spanning the years 2018 to 2022.

LİDERLİK KAVRAMI ÜZERİNE BİBLİYOMETRİK BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract

Liderlik kavramı uzun yıllardır yönetim literatüründe önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Ancak liderlik, sosyal bilimlerde en fazla çalışılan ve en az anlaşılan konu niteliğindedir. Örgütlerde bu olgu zamanla değişime uğramakla birlikte liderlik teorileri de yeniden şekillenmektedir. Liderlik, önemli ölçüde karmaşık ve çok boyutlu olgulardan birisidir. Yıllardır incelenen bu kavram g ünümüzün hızlı, tempolu ve giderek küreselleşen iş dünyasında her zamankinden daha büyük öneme sahip hale geldi. Liderlik; değişimi yönetebilmekte, kurumsal hedeflere ulaşmakta ve toplumsal veya diğer zorluklarla başa çıkabilmekte oldukça büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Liderliğin bir dizi tanımı bulunmaktadır, ancak en genel ifadesi hedeflere ulaşmak için başkalarını etkileme yeteneği ile ilgilidir. Başkalarını en doğru şekilde etkileyebilmek için gerekli olan süreç ve nitelikler, liderlik anlayışının merkezinde yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada, liderlik kavramının son zamanlarda nasıl değiştiği ve bu değişimle birlikte ortaya çıkan liderlik teorileri incelenmektedir. Bu bağlamda bibliyometrik analiz yapılarak son beş yıl içerisinde Web of Science (WOS) veri tabanında yer alan 2557 makale incelenmiştir. İncelenen makaleler neticesinde en fazla gündemde olan liderlik teorilerinin; dönüşümcü liderlik (252 kere), etik liderlik (181 kere), hizmetkar liderlik (136 kere) ve otantik liderlik (97 kere) olduğu görülmektedir. Çalışmanın bulgularının liderlik teorileri üzerine gelecekteki araştırmalar için güçlü bir temel sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Çalışmanın kısıtları; 2018-2022 yılları arasında, WOS veri tabanında yer alan işletme ve yönetim alanındaki SSCI endeksinde taranan dergilerdeki makaleleri içermesi olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır.
