DEWEY’İN DÜŞÜNCELERİNİN DARWİNCİ TEMELLERİ

Year 2022, Volume: 1 Issue: 75, 57 - 73, 15.07.2022

Abstract

DARWINIAN FOUNDATIONS OF DEWEY’S THOUGHTS

Year 2022, Volume: 1 Issue: 75, 57 - 73, 15.07.2022

Abstract

This work provides a discussion on the foundations of philosophical arguments of a philosopher of democracy, John Dewey. After examining the change that occurs in Dewey’s thoughts in relation to Charles Darwin’s explanations on nature and life, an analysis of Dewey’s basic concepts is presented. Especially, through naturalist and evolutionary justifications that provide a basis for the concepts of nature, experience, and growth, the influence of Darwin on Dewey is discussed. After such an analysis and a discussion, this work finalizes with a comment on Dewey’s notion of democracy.
