Critical Discourse Analysis on the Subaltern Identity in Günther Wallraff's "At the Bottom"

Abstract

The inclusiveness of the historiographical understanding that emerged from the nation-state and colonialism contains controversial points, because when the understanding of historiography is colonialism-centered, the focus is on the capital cycle. Therefore, everything that will be the topic of historiography gains meaning and a place for itself to the extent that it contributes to the capital cycle. In this context, within an economic-based understanding, there is a distinction between exploiter and exploited for the subject. However, such a reading is a western-centered historiography. In other words, it is a writing that reflects the epistemic concerns of the hegemonic subject in line with its existence and constitutes the other. Considering that it is Western-centered, reflects the wishes of a hegemonic subject, and is subject to the extent that it serves the capital cycle, the question of whether it is possible to talk about classes that do not have any opportunities and do not belong anywhere comes to mind, so it does not seem possible to express these classes that are outside the hegemony, oppressed, and at the bottom, which are not wanted to be expressed, with classical historiography. In this context, it is the subject of this study to make a reading that will express these subclasses through literature, to investigate what belongs to them and to create a representation of them. At this point, the aim of the study is to examine the existence of Turkish workers who went to Germany to work in the past under the name of 'subaltern identity' based on Günther Wallraff's work “At the Bottom”. In this way, a discourse analysis of these groups will be tried to be made within a background that reveals and points out what is at the bottom.

Günther Wallraff’ın “En Alttakiler” (Ganz Unten) Adlı Eserinde Madun Kimliğin Eleştirel Söylem Analizi

Abstract

Ulus-devlet ve sömürgecilikten ortaya çıkmış olan tarih yazım anlayışının kapsayıcılığı tartışmalı olan noktaları içerisinde barındırmaktadır, zira tarih yazım anlayışı sömürgecilik merkezli olduğunda, odaklanılan nokta da sermaye döngüsü olmaktadır. Dolayısıyla tarih yazımında konu edinilecek her şey sermaye döngüsüne katkı sağlaması ölçüsünde anlam kazanmakta ve kendisine yer edinmektedir. Bu bağlamda ekonomik temelli bir anlayış içerisinde özne için sömüren ve sömürülen ayrımı söz konusudur. Fakat bu şekilde bir okuma, batı merkezli bir tarih yazımıdır. Diğer bir ifade ile, egemen öznenin varlığı doğrultusunda onun epistemik kaygılarını yansıtan ve ötekini oluşturan bir yazımdır. Batı merkezli olması, egemen bir öznenin istemlerini yansıtması ve sermaye döngüsüne hizmet etmesi nedeniyle de hiçbir imkana sahip olmayan ve bir yere ait olmayan sınıflardan bahsedilebilir mi sorusunu akla getirmektedir, dolayısıyla hegemonya dışında kalmış olan, ezilen, dile getirilmek istenilmeyen ve en altta olan bu sınıfları ifade etmek klasik tarih yazımı ile mümkün gözükmemektedir. Bu bağlamda edebiyat aracılığı ile söz konusu alt tabakaları ifade edecek, onlara ait olanın ne olduğunu araştıracak ve onlara ait temsil oluşturacak bir okumanın yapılması bu çalışmanın konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Bu noktada ise çalışmanın amacı, Günther Wallraff’ın “En Alttakiler” adlı eserinden hareketle zamanında Almanya’ya çalışmak için giden Türk işçilerin varlığını ‘madun kimlik’ adı altında incelemektir. Böylelikle en altta olanı ortaya çıkaran ve işaret eden bir arka plan dahilinde bu gruplara dair bir söylem analizi yapılmaya çalışılacaktır.
