Aim

Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (Formerly: Hacettepe Bulletin of Natural Sciences and Engineering - Series B) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality original research articles and occasional comprehensive surveys in all areas of Mathematics and Statistics. The journal is committed to promoting the advancement of mathematical and statistical sciences by providing a platform for researchers to disseminate their findings to a global audience.

As an open-access journal, Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (HJMS) does not charge any article processing or publishing fees, ensuring that high-quality research remains freely accessible to the scientific community. The journal accepts submissions exclusively in English and upholds a rigorous peer-review process to maintain academic excellence.

The journal is widely recognized in the academic community and is indexed in leading databases such as Web of Science (Science Citation Index Expanded), Scopus, and Zentralblatt MATH. With its long-standing history and commitment to scholarly publishing, Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics continues to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, academicians, and practitioners in the fields of Mathematics and Statistics.

Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (HJMS) is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing high-quality, original research. The journal accepts only manuscripts written in English and does not charge any submission or publication fees. Submitted articles must align with the journal’s scope and meet the required quality standards; otherwise, they will not be considered for review. Manuscripts that have been previously published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere will not be accepted.

Submission Process

Manuscript submissions for the journal are processed through the DergiPark system. Submissions must be made via the corresponding author's account. To submit your manuscript, please register and log in to the submission portal at DergiPark Login. (https://dergipark.org.tr/en/login). 

• Copyright Release Form: Download the form from https://fs.hacettepe.edu.tr/stat/HJMS/HJMS-Copyright%20Transfer%20Form.pdf. Complete the necessary fields, sign the document, and upload the scanned copy to the DergiPark system.
• ORCID ID: Ensure that each author has an ORCID ID. If you do not have one, please register at ORCID from https://orcid.org/  

Plagiarism

The journal takes issues of copyright infringement, plagiarism, and other violations of best publishing practices very seriously. As part of the review process, manuscripts that lack proper form or exhibit a high similarity to existing sources, as detected by the iThenticate software (https://www.ithenticate.com/)  will be immediately rejected by the editor.

It is essential to include all figure and table files, where applicable, along with the TeX file and class file during the submission process.

Option 2 (Employment of the Overleaf Template) For a collaborative and user-friendly environment, authors are encouraged to prepare their manuscripts using the official HJMS Overleaf template. The template includes all the necessary files and is accessible via the following link:

The online template provides all required files for manuscript preparation. Once the manuscript is completed, authors must download all files (including any figure and table files, where applicable) from Overleaf and upload them individually to the DergiPark system.

Note: The official Hacettepe University logo will be added later by the production editors of the journal. For both options, please ignore the following errors or warnings:

• "Package pdftex.def Error: File `h-eps-converted-to.pdf' not found: using draft setting."
• "File `h.eps' not found."

Preparation of Manuscripts

The following guidelines mut be adhered to when preparing manuscripts for submission to Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics.

1. Title 

• The title of your manuscript should be clear, concise, and accurately reflect its content.
• A descriptive title that clearly conveys the topic of the manuscript will enhance its visibility in major indexing services. 

2. Abstract

• The manuscript should begin with a concise, descriptive title followed by an informative abstract of no more than 250 words.
• The abstract may include references but should avoid the use of abbreviations.
• If the abstract contains a citation, the authors' names, title, journal, and publication date should be enclosed in square brackets.

3. Keywords

• You are required to provide at least three keywords for indexing purposes. Keywords should be written in English.
• Only the first letter of the keywords should be capitalized, separated by commas, and there should be no dot at the end.
• Avoid using multi-word keywords that include terms like "and" or "of."
• Only use abbreviations in keywords if they are widely recognized and established in the field.

4. AMS Mathematics Subject Classification

• The manuscript must include the 2020 AMS Mathematics Subject Classification codes from https://mathscinet.ams.org/mathscinet/msc/msc2020.html  to categorize the content appropriately.
• Multiple classification codes should be separated by commas

5. Abbreviations

• Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.
  

6. Figures and Tables

• Figures (minimum resolution: 300 dpi) and tables should be embedded within the text and numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals. 
• Each table and figure must have a descriptive caption explaining its components.
• Table captions should be placed above the table. 
• Figure captions should be placed below the figure.
• Figures, images, artwork, diagrams, and other graphical media must also be submitted as separate files along with the manuscript.
• All tables and figures must be cited in the manuscript text.
• The terms “Table x.” and “Figure x.” must be in bold, while the rest of the caption should be in regular font and end with a period. See examples: "Table 1. Comparison of two-point estimations for some values of the parameters." and  "Figure 3. Sampling distribution".

7. Equations

• Equations should be numbered sequentially in the order they appear in the text.
• Each equation must be centered on the page, with its corresponding number placed in parentheses and right-aligned. In the manuscript, equations should be referenced solely by their assigned numbers.
• Equations must be written in editable text format, not as images. If a numbered equation is included, it should be properly cited within the text.

8. Citations

• When citing multiple references, arrange them in ascending numerical order (e.g., [2, 3, 16]).
• For consecutive references, use a range instead of listing each reference separately (e.g., [2-6] instead of [2, 3, 4, 5, 6]).
• Authors must ensure that all hyperlinks included in the manuscript are valid and functional at the time of submission.

9. References 

• All references must be cited in the text, and any references cited within your article should also appear in your reference list.
• Corresponding citations must have identical spelling. References should be numbered and referred to in the text by the same number, enclosed in square brackets.
• References should be ordered alphabetically by the last name of the first author. If multiple works by the same author exist, they should be further ordered by the last name of the second author. If the authors are identical, the most recent work should be listed first.
• Journal names must be abbreviated according to ISO4 standards (https://www.issn.org/services/online-services/access-to-the-ltwa/), and volume numbers should be written in bold. There must be a space between the volume and issue numbers, but no comma should separate the journal name and issue number.
• Initials in author names should not have spaces between them (e.g., “M.M. Arat”). The word "and" should be included before the last author's name, without a comma preceding it.
• The first word of the article title should begin with an uppercase letter, and the remaining words should be lowercase. For books, all words in the title should start with uppercase letters. Please refrain from using quotation marks around publication titles. The title of the publication should be italicized.

10. Appendix Guidelines

• Appendices should appear after the “References” section.

11. Additional Sections in Manuscripts

• Acknowledgements: Provide details regarding any assistance received during the research or manuscript preparation process. 
• Author Contributions: Clearly specify the contributions of each author to the work presented in the manuscript. 
• Conflict of Interest: Declare any potential conflicts of interest related to the research or publication. 
• Funding: Specify the sources of funding that supported the research, including grant numbers where applicable. The names of funding organizations should be written in full. Example statements: (1) “This work was supported by […] (Grant numbers […] and […]). Author A.B. has received research support from Company A.” or (2) “The authors declare that no funds, grants, or other support were received during the preparation of this manuscript.” 
• Data Availability: Describe the accessibility of the data used in the research. Indicate whether the data is publicly available or provide details on how it can be accessed. 

Requirements Upon Acceptance

• Following the acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors are required to ensure that their work is fully formatted in accordance with the HJMS Template, which is provided above. Therefore, authors must submit the class file of HJMS template, the tex file of the manuscript alongside all associated figure/table files.
• Please note that manuscripts not prepared in the specified format, as outlined on this page, will not be considered for publication in the journal.

Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (HJMS) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and to supporting ethical research practices and strictly adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers. We encourage journal editors to follow the COPE Code of Conduct for Journal Editors and to refer reviewers to the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers as appropriate. In the development of the Policies and Ethics of HJMS, the following sources have been utilized:

Responsibilities of Authors

• Articles submitted for publication must comply with the highest ethical standards in scientific publishing, including but not limited to avoiding plagiarism, falsification, distortion, republishing, data slicing, unfair authorship, failure to specify supporting organizations, and not adhering to ethical guidelines in animal studies.

• Authors conducting research that involves qualitative or quantitative approaches requiring data collection from participants (e.g., questionnaires, interviews, focus group work, observation, experimentation, clinical trials on humans or animals) must obtain Ethics Committee Permission. Authors must also obtain and specify permission from the owners for the use of scales, surveys, and photographs.

• Any changes in authorship, whether prior to or after publication, must be agreed upon by all authors, including those being added or removed. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining confirmation from all co-authors and providing evidence of this to the editorial office with a full explanation regarding the reason for the change.

• All authors must agree on the corresponding author and the order of co-authors. They should also verify their affiliations and contact details before submitting the manuscript.

• If the corresponding author wishes to withdraw a paper from the journal, they must inform the editor with the consent of all other authors.

• All authors must be able to publicly defend their paper. If requested during the review process, an author must provide the dataset to the reviewers.

• Authors must declare any competing interests in their cover letters or on the manuscript submission form within the journal’s online peer review system.

• All manuscripts must be well-written in English. Papers that do not meet the journal’s standards for language and clarity will be returned for revision and may be rejected solely on these grounds.

• After acceptance, authors must adhere to the writing rules of Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics (HJMS) and use the HJMS style files. Authors must not share their paper with the HJMS logo during the review process on any public platform.

Responsibilities of Editors

• The editor of the journal is solely and independently responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal will be published. Based on the review report, the editor holds complete authority to accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.

• The editor’s decisions are guided by the policies of the journal’s editorial board and are also constrained by legal requirements, including issues related to libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

• The editor evaluates manuscripts and makes decisions regarding acceptance or rejection based solely on the importance, originality, clarity, and relevance of the paper to the journal’s scope. All research papers must undergo evaluation by at least two external and independent reviewers. If necessary, the editor may seek further opinions.

• The editor ensures that each manuscript submitted to journal is evaluated solely based on its intellectual content, without regard to the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious beliefs, or political views.

• The editor is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of material submitted to journal while it is under review.

• The editor ensures that peer review is fair, unbiased, and conducted promptly, so authors do not experience unnecessary delays in the publication process.

• The editor must not use unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author’s written consent.

• The editor must take appropriate action if misconduct is reported regarding the integrity of a submitted manuscript or published paper, in collaboration with the publisher. These actions may include contacting the author of the manuscript, addressing the respective complaints or claims, and possibly involving relevant institutions and research bodies.

• The editor must not participate in decisions concerning papers they have authored themselves, or papers written by family members or colleagues, or those relating to products or services in which they have an interest.

• Any changes to the authorship list, including additions, deletions, or rearrangements of author names, must be approved by the editor.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

• Reviewers should refrain from directly contacting the author(s) of the paper they are assigned to review.

• Reviewers are required to maintain the confidentiality of the ideas and findings presented in the manuscript under review. The paper should not be shared with others and should not be used for the reviewer’s own research purposes. 

• Reviewers must evaluate the manuscripts objectively and professionally. Reviews should be constructive, well-written, and provide clear, helpful feedback that the authors can use to improve their work.

• If a selected reviewer feels they are not sufficiently qualified to review the manuscript’s subject matter, they should inform the editor and excuse themselves from the review process.

• Reviewers are expected to complete the "Evaluation Form for Referees" with detailed and explanatory arguments supporting their final decisions.

• Reviewers should submit their referee reports within the timeframe provided by the journal. If a reviewer is unable to meet the deadline, they should notify the editor promptly.

• In the event of a potential conflict of interest, the reviewer must inform the editor as soon as possible.

• Reviewers should report any ethical concerns they have regarding the paper, such as issues related to duplication, plagiarism, or other ethical violations, to the editor.

Peer-Review Policy

5. Limitations: The authors must notice that only two submissions per author per year will be considered. Once a paper is under review or has been accepted for publication, all co-authors need to wait 6 months from the submission date before submitting another paper to Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics.

Copyright

• Upon acceptance of an article for publication, the copyright of the article is transferred to Hacettepe Journal of Mathematics and Statistics.
• For any materials previously published elsewhere that require permission for reproduction, the author must obtain and provide the necessary copyright permissions.  
• The copyright in a published article rests solely with the Faculty of Science of Hacettepe University, and the paper may not be reproduced in whole or in part by any means whatsoever without prior written permission.

• Manuscripts must be original and should not have been previously published or simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.
• The author(s) bear full responsibility for the content of their published work, and its publication does not imply endorsement by the editors or the publisher.
