Abstract

Year 2024, Volume: 4 Issue: 2, 180 - 193, 01.05.2024

Abstract

Various news formats have emerged due to today's technology. Readers, viewers, and users can actively participate in the news process. Digitalisation has made it possible to follow the news anytime and anywhere. However, news avoidance and news fatigue have become prevalent in recent years. Research has been conducted to understand why people tend to avoid news. In recent years, issues such as news avoidance, non-consumption, or low consumption of news have gained attention, particularly in digital research reports. Due to reasons such as negativity and low reliability of the news, situations such as distancing from news and distrust towards news have emerged, despite news content being easily accessible in mobile and digital media. This study analyses the concepts of news avoidance and news fatigue through a literature review. The decline in news consumption rates, reasons for news avoidance, and potential solutions are discussed based on the descriptive findings obtained. The study employs a qualitative literature review and draws conclusions based on the analysis.
