Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to determine the factors that lead to procrastination behavior and to examine the relationship of this behavior with daily life and its role in religious practices. In this study, where qualitative research method is used, semi-structured interview technique is preferred. Face-to-face and online interviews were conducted with 20 participants, consisting of 10 men and 10 women, aged between of 30-45 years who agreed to participate in the research. The obtained data is analyzed with thematic content analysis using the MAXQDA 2022 program. In our research, procrastination behavior is considered in two parts as general and religious. The research revealed that the lack of time management and the nature of the task were identified as the two most influential fundamental factors in the emergence of general procrastination behavior. It is indicated that procrastination behavior led to negative emotions such as anger, stress, frustration, and anxiety among the participants. The participants were observed to emphasize factors such as effective time management and increasing motivation to cope with general procrastination behavior. In the procrastination behavior related to religious practices, it was observed that spiritual weakness ranked first among the factors. The procrastination of religious practices not only triggered negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, and restlessness among the participants but also brought forth feelings of sinfulness and regret. In coping with procrastination behavior in religious practices, participants were found to emphasize more on religious/spiritual development.
