Abstract

Abstract, Antigone is one of the most famous tragedies that deals with the political conflict between a woman and a king "over death" or rather over "whether or not a dead person should be buried" and is the subject of countless interpretations. The character of Antigone, created by Sophocles, represents a contrary woman who challenges the dominant view of the police due to her excluded position in society. On the other hand, Creon, the new king, represents a ruler who takes a strict political stance against the unwritten-traditional laws of the polis by identifying his personal power with the power of the state. Creon passes a law prohibiting the burial of the body of Antigone's brother, whom he declared a traitor, in order to protect the interests of the state. Through the character of Antigone, who defies Creon's ban and wants to bury her brother's body at all costs, Sophocles questions the foundations of civil disobedience as well as the limits of the obligation to obey the law and the state by discussing the foundations and limits of the state. In this context, Antigone is a political play that raises fundamental questions about the nature of law, politics and political obligation. The aim of this article is to analyze these discussions and questions. The importance of the article is to analyze the Antiğone tragedy by touching on its historical, social, political and cultural context and background.

Antigone: Bir Ölü Üzerinden Siyaset, Meşruiyet ve Devlet

Abstract

Antigone, “ölüm üzerinden” daha doğrusu “bir ölünün gömülüp gömülmemesi” üzerindenbir kadın ile bir kralın siyasal çatışmasını işleyen ve sayısız yoruma konu olan en ünlü tragedyalardan biridir. Sophokles'in yarattığı Antigone karakteri,toplumdaki dışlanmış konumu nedeniyle polise yönelik egemen bakış açısına karşı meydan okuyan aykırı bir kadını temsil eder. Buna karşın yeni kral olan Creon ise kendi kişisel iktidarı ile devletin iktidarını özdeşleştirerek polisin yazısız-geleneksel yasalarına karşı katı bir siyasal tavır sergileyen bir yöneticiyi temsil eder. Creon, vatan haini ilan ettiği Antigone’nin erkek kardeşinin cesedinin gömülmesini devletin çıkarlarını korumak adına yasaklayan bir yasa çıkarır. Sophokles, Creon’un yasağına karşı gelerek ne pahasına olursa olsun kardeşinin cesedinin gömmek isteyen Antigone karakteri aracılığıyla sivil itaatsizliğin temelleri yanında, devletin temellerini ve sınırlarını tartışma konusu yaparakyasaya ve devlete itaat yükümlülüğünün sınırlarını sorgulamıştır. Bu bağlamda Antigone yasanın doğası, siyaset ve siyasal yükümlülük hakkındaki temel soruları gündeme getiren siyasal bir oyundur. Bu makalenin amacı da bu tartışmaları ve soruları ele alarak analiz edebilmektir. Makalenin önemi ise Antıgone tragedyasını, tarihsel, toplumsal, siyasal ve kültürel bağlamı ve arka planını da değinerek analiz edebilmektir.
