Toplumsal İşlevselliğin Toplum Temelli Araştırılması: Kocaeli'de Bir Ön Çalışma

Öz

Amaç: Kocaeli’de yaşayan bireylerin toplumsal
işlevselliğini yansıtan bireysel ya/ya da toplumsal
davranışlarının/alışkanlıklarının sıklığını saptamaktır.

Yöntem: Toplumsal işlevselliği değerlendiren ölçeklerde
yer alan bireysel ve toplumsal davranış alışkanlıkları gözden geçirilerek 50
maddeden oluşan bir sormaca formu hazırlandı. Alışkanlıkların sıklıkları 4
derecede ele alındı. Form 30 kişide denendi ve maddelerin anlaşılmasındaki
sorunlar giderildi. Nüfus özelliklerini de içerecek biçimde hazırlanan formun
son hali toplumu temsil ettiği düşünülen her eğitim düzeyinden 450 kişiye
gelişigüzel örnekleme yöntemiyle uygulandı.

Bulgular: Kocaeli’de yaşayan 425 kişinin bulguları
değerlendirmeye alındı. %29’u ilkokul, %24’ü ortaokul, %31’i lise ve %16’sı
üniversite mezunu olan bireylerin %55’i erkek, %61’i evli ve yaş ortalaması 37
idi. Toplumsal alışkanlıklar, genel olarak kadının ev işlerinde erkeğin ise dış
işlerde konumlandığı geleneksel toplum yapısına uyan bir örneği ortaya çıkardı.
Dans etkinliklerine katılım (%15) ve bir derneğe üye olma (%23) çok az
görülürken gazete okuma erkek cinsi ile kitap okuma ise kadın cinsi ile
ilişkili bulundu.

Tartışma: Bireysel alışkanlıklar toplumda yaygın olarak
benimsenen davranışları yansıtır. Bireyin toplumsallaşmasını gösteren
alışkanlıkların kabaca bilinmesi toplumsal işlevselliği değerlendirme ölçeğinin
geliştirilmesi için iyi bir yol göstericidir.

An Investigation Of Social Functioning In A Group Of People Living In Kocaeli: A Preliminary Study

Öz

Aim: The aim of this study
is to determine the frequency of individual and social behaviours/habits which
represent social functioning of people living in Kocaeli.

Methods: A 50-item
questionnaire was prepared after individual and social behaviors/routines in
social functioning asessment scales were scrutinized. The frequencies of the
habits were evaluated by using 4 levels. The questionnaire was tried on 30
people and the problems about its comprehensibility were reevaluated. Final
version of the questionnaire including part of demographic information was
applied on 450 people from every level of education that presumably represent
the community via convenient sampling.

Results: The results of
425 people living in Kocaeli were selected for evaluation. Twentynine per cent
of the participants were graduated from primary school, 24% from secondary
school, 31% from high school, and 16% from university degree. Fiftyfive per
cent of the individuals were males, 61% were married and the mean age was 37
years. Social habits revealed an example of traditional social structure which
women in general occupy with housework while men engage in outside works. The
participation of dance activities (15%) and having a membership of any
association (23%) rates were quite low. Furthermore, while reading newspaper
was significantly correlated with male gender, reading books was correlated
with female gender.

Conclusion: Individual
habits reflect the common behaviors of society. Roughly knowing the
individuals’ habits which represent their socialization is an excellent guide in
developing a social functioning assessment scale.
