The aim of the study is to assess the upper extremity functional status in desk-based workers and determine the relationship between upper extremity functional status, office ergonomics awareness, sleep quality, and quality of life. The study included 96 individuals between the ages of 18 and 60, who had been working at a desk for at least 2 years, working a minimum of 30 hours per week, and had no structural, neurological, or systemic problems affecting upper extremity functionality. Demographic and physical characteristics of the participants were recorded, and for the assessment of functional status, a Hydraulic Hand Dynamometer, scapular muscle and upper extremity muscle endurance tests, and Upper Extremity Functional Index-15 (UEFI-15) were used. The office ergonomics awareness of desk-based workers was evaluated using the Office Ergonomics Awareness Questionnaire (OEAQ), while sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and quality of life was evaluated using SF-12. It has been determined that individuals with an average age of 38, where 20% are female, experience decreased grip strength, sleep quality, and life quality. Weak to moderate correlations were found between desk-based workers' UEFI-15 scores and OEFA (r=0.425, p<0.001), SF-12 Physical (r=0.575, p<0.001), SF-12 Mental (r=0.268, p<0.001), and PUKI (r=-0.489, p<0.001) scores. Additionally, the results of grip strength measurements were found to be associated with office ergonomics awareness and quality of life level (p<0.05). Based on the study results, increasing office ergonomics awareness among desk workers may be effective in improving grip strength and upper extremity functionality. Moreover, it is believed that approaches aimed at enhancing upper extremity functionality could lead to improvements in individuals' life quality and sleep quality.
