Review Articles

Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy has been published regularly twice in a year since 1981 till 2021.We have been publishing 4 issues a year since 2021. In our journal, we publish recent studies on Pharmaceutical Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Social Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Botany, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Radiopharmacy, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and also topics related with the pharmaceutical area.

All manuscripts are subject to rapid peer review and those of high quality (not previously published and not under consideration for publication in another journal) are published without delay.

It is obligatory to comply with Research and Publication Ethics in articles.

Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy publishes original research artricles and review articles. The research articles should be written in English, the review articles can be either in English or Turkish.

The journal is an open access peer refereed scientific journal. We have no purpose of profit and no publication fees.

In our journal, we publish recent studies on Pharmaceutical Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Social Pharmacy, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Botany, Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Radiopharmacy, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and also topics outside the pharmaceutical area.

Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy publishes original research artricles and review articles.

The research articles should be written in English, the review articles can be either in English or Turkish.

1. All manuscripts must be in MS Word format and should be submitted via our online submission system. Authors are encouraged to use the manuscript template provided in our website to prepare their manuscripts. Title page and rest of the manuscrip should be uploaded on seperate pages to the system. Title page must contain the title in English and/or Turkish, authors names, ORCİD numbers and affiliations. Corresponding author name, affiliation, address, e-mail and telephone number must also be included. The manuscript must be consist of title, abstract, özet (only for Turkish reviews) and the rest of the manuscript.

2. The manuscript should be prepared as a single file including Title, Abstract - Key Words (for Turkish reviews Turkish abstract and keywords must be provided), Abstact and Keywords, Main Text, Acknowledgements, References, Figures, Schemas and Tables. Figures, Schemas and Tables must be embedded to the main text.

At the end of the article; Statement of Contribution of Researchers (the author must list all authors and provide details of their role in the published work), Statement of Support and Acknowledgment, if any, Statement of Conflict should be included.

The full names, addresses and ORCİD numbers of all authors, in addition, e-mail address and telephone number of the corresponding author must be provided with the title pager only. Authors should indicate their names and addresses with the title page but not with the manuscript.

3. Each manuscript should be accompanied by a cover letter addressed to the Editor and signed by the corresponding author on behalf of all authors. The cover letter should explicitly state that the manuscript has not been previously published in another language anywhere, and that it is not under simultaneous consideration by another journal. This journal does not accept manuscripts that are simultaneously being considered by another journal or already published elsewhere. Thus, authors are required to include the following statement in the Cover Letter:

"This manuscript has not been previously published in another language anywhere and that it is not under simultaneous consideration by another journal."

Authors may submit the names, affiliations and addresses (including e-mail) of at least three expert reviewers or those they do not want to review their papers.

5. Authors would be required to sign a transferring copyright form which will be supplied by the Editor, to our journal after the manuscript is accepted for publication.

6. Authors using experimental animals and human subjects in their investigation must seek approval from the appropriate Ethical Committee in accordance with "Principles of Laboratory Animal Care" (NIH publication no. 85-23, revised 1985) and/or the declaration of Helsinki promulgated in 1964 as amended in 1996. The method section must include a statement to prove that Ethical aspects of the investigation was approved and that informed consent was obtained. The board name, date and protocol number of the approval of ethical commission must be given in “Material and Method”.



STRUCTURE:

1. Manuscripts must be neatly typed with “Times New Roman 12 pt” (size page A4), double-spaced throughout, including figures and tables, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides.

2. The Editor reserves the right to adjust style to certain standards of uniformity. Every page of the manuscript must be numbered at the right top.

3. Titles and subtitles should be written bold and title case.

4. The usage of italics should be limited to scientific names of organisms.

5. Mention the full form of abbreviations when they appear for the first time in the text.

6. References need to be cited in the text inside the brackets. (Example: Analysis of NS [1] was performed by spectrophotometric and electrochemical methods [2-6].)

7.Figures, Schemas and Tables must be cited in the text if they exist.

ARTICLE TYPES:

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the below mentioned word and reference limitations and other related information.



Research articles

1. Manuscript should include adequate information for reproducibility by specialists.

2. First page should contain Title, Abstract-Key Words in English, and Abstract -Keywords in Turkish (only for Turkish reviews).

3. The title should not include abbreviations except well known abbreviations such as HPLC, DNA, etc. The title should not exceed 15 words, the English and Turkish abstracts should not exceed 200 words, and minimum 3, maximum 5 keywords must be given related to the manuscript.

4. The full names and addresses of all authors, in addition, e-mail address and telephone number of the corresponding author must be provided with the title page only.

5. Second page should start with the Introduction. The other sections should be Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements (if necessary), Conflict of interest statement, Contribution of researchers and References.

6. Figures and Tables must be presented where they are mentioned in the text.

7. Sections ranging from the Introduction to the Conclusions should be numbered with Arabic numerals such as 1, 2, etc. Sub-headings should also be numbered with Arabic numerals such as 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, etc. All pages should be numbered consecutively, the title page being p.1.

8. For research articles, main text (excluding references) should not exceed 5000 words, and number of references should not exceed 40.



Review articles

1. Highly focused review articles written by experts on the relevant subjects will be published.

2. First page should contain Title, Abstract-Key Words in English, and Abstact -Keywords in Turkish (only for Turkish reviews). Second page should start with the Introduction. The other sections should be Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements (if necessary), Conflict of interest statement, Contribution of researchers and References.

3. The title should not include abbreviations except some well known abbreviations such as HPLC, DNA, etc. The title should not exceed 15 words, and the English and Turkish abstracts should not exceed 200 words, and minimum 3, maximum 5 keywords should be provided.

7. A review article should consists of Introduction, relevant headings/subheadings and Conclusion sections. All headings and subheadings should be numbered with Arabic numerals as described in Research Articles section. For the review articles, main text should not exceed 6000 words. There is no limitation for number of references.

Figures :
Authors are responsible for managing the inclusion of third-party content as an author/editor of a work. We refer to 'third party content' as any work that authors haven't developed themselves and have copied or adapted from other sources. Text, figures, photographs, tables, screenshots, and other items may be included.

Unless the figure is in the public domain (copyright-free) or permitted for use under a Creative Commons or other open licenses, the author must get permission from the copyright holder(s).
Published/reproduced material should not be included unless written permission has been obtained from the copyright holder, which should be forwarded to us.

• References are listed in numerical order, and in the same order in which they are cited in text. The reference list appears at the end of the paper.
• Begin your reference list on a new page and title it 'References'.
• The reference list should include all and only those references you have cited in the text. (However, do not include unpublished items
• Use Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
• Abbreviate journal titles in the style used in the web of science..
• Check the reference details against the actual source
• The preferred method is to list each reference number separated by a comma, or by a dash for a sequence of consecutive numbers. There should be no spaces between commas or dashes

NOMENCLATURE, SYMBOLS, UNITS:

1- Use only SI quantities and units (SI = Système International d’Unités). All nomenclature should follow established rules wherever these are available.

2- Only generic and chemical names of drugs should be used, although a proprietary equivalent may be indicated once, in parentheses. Pharmacological and Chemical Synonyms, E.E.J. Marler, 9th edn. (Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1990) may be consulted.

3- The nomenclature of chemical substances should be consistent, clear and unambiguous, and should conform to the usage of the American Chemical Society and the convention recommended by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). 4- The trivial name of the enzyme may be used in the text, but the systematic name and classification number according to Enzyme Nomenclature, rev. edn. (Academic Press, New York, NY, 1984) should be quoted for the first time the enzyme is mentioned.

MATHEMATICAL EQUATIONS:

Mathematical equations should be drawn or written in the manuscript at the appropriate places where they belong. They should always stand alone (i. e. occupy extra lines).

REVISED MANUSCRIPT

Revised manuscripts should be returned as follows. A revised text file with all alterations are clearly marked and visible should be submitted. Use either (1) the track change mode in Microsoft Word or (2) change the script color of areas containing the required alterations. The manuscript should be accompanied by a point by point letter summarizing how you have dealt with each of the reviewers’ remarks. The file(s) with the changes visible on screen should be submitted to the online procedure. Upon acceptance of the manuscript the final uploaded version will be taken as the basis for copyediting and the subsequent production process. Responses to reviewer's comments must be submitted as a word file seperately.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION CHECK-LIST:

Please carefully go through the following check list. Non-compliance with Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy manuscript formatting requirements will result in the manuscript being returned to the corresponding author for reformatting or rejection.

[ ] Is the manuscript typed double-spaced with 2.5 cm of margins from all sides on A4 (MS Word 2003 or newer version) including all the sections? .Note that PDF is not acceptable.

[ ] Are the authors’ full names, affiliations and ORCID numbers given in ‘Title page’ but not in manuscript?

[ ] Are the Abstracts (English and Turkish) written within the 200-word limit and 5 keywords provided?

[ ] Is the manuscript within the limit of 5000 words (typed double-spaced on A4) for research papers or 6000 words (typed double-spaced on A4) for review papers?

[ ] Is there a ‘Conclusion’ section?

[ ] Is the reference numbering style within text co-script with square parenthesis (squared brackets) with the numbers inserted before and not after punctuations?

[ ] Does the ‘References' list adhere strictly to HUJPHARM format (APA style)?

[ ] Is there a legend/caption at the bottom of each Figure and at the top of each Table?

[ ] Are the Figures/images sharp and clear with legible fonts of at least font 12 for y- and x-axis labels, units and annotations?

Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy is a peer-reviewed academic journal which is published four times a year.

Review of Articles
Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy accepts paper submission from researchers .
Articles submitted to Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy are first reviewed by the Editors in terms of the journal's publishing principles and scope.
Those found unsuitable are returned to their authors for revision.
Submissions found suitable are referred to two referees working in relevant fields. The names of the referees are kept confidential and referee reports are archived by dergipark. If one of the referee reports is positive and the other is negative, the article may be forwarded to a third referee for further assessment or alternatively, the Editor may make a final decision based on the nature of the refrees' reports.
The authors are responsible for revising their articles in line with the criticism and suggestions made by the referees and the Editor. If they disagree with any issues, they may make an objection by providing clearly-stated reasons.

Language of Publication
The language of Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy is English and Turkish. Research articles must be written in English while review articles can be in Turkish and English.

Plagiarism Policy
All articles are checked by technical editor by means of a program (Ithenticate) in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism.

Only Exclude Bibliography in settings and Exclude resources less than: 5 Words “Exclude sources that are less than: 5 words” settings should be used.
Studies with more than 25% similarity in the entire study as a result of the screening are not included in the preliminary evaluation.
The preliminary evaluation process of the articles that pass this examination is completed.

All responsibility for ethical violations belongs to the authors.

This journal provides immediate open access to its content based on the principle to make the research freely available to the public that supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy does not charge any article submission, processing charges, and printing charge from the authors.

Submissions to Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy should be original articles evaluating previous studies in the field and should produce new and worthwhile ideas and perspectives

The manuscript should be prepared as a single file including Title, Abstract, Key Words, Abstact and Keywords, Main Text, Acknowledgements, Conflict of interest Statement, Contribution of researchers, References, Figures, Schemas and Tables. Any subsection may be given a brief heading. Each heading should appear on its own separate line.
State the objectives of the work and provide an adequate background, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results.

An article to be published in Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy should not have been previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere.

Publication Policy:
Publication process at Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy is the basis of the improvement and dissemination of information objectively and respectfully. Therefore, the procedures in this process improve the quality of manuscripts.
Double blind peer-reviewed studies are the ones that support and materialize the scientific method. At this point, all parties included in the publication process (authors, readers and researchers, publisher, reviewers and editors) comply with the standards of ethical considerations. Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy expects all parties to hold the following ethical responsibilities.

It is obligatory to comply with Research and Publication Ethics in articles.

According to the decisions taken by the relevant boards of TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM TR DİZİN, from the authors of the articles other than the type of compilation to be applied for publication in all journals indexed in TR DİZİN for the year 2020 and under evaluation;
• Indication and documentation of the ethics committee approval (The board name, date and protocol number of the approval of ethical commission must be given in “Material and Method”) and method section of the candidate article for research that requires data collection through methods such as scales, surveys, interviews, and observations,
• The information that the informed consent/consent form was signed,
• The proofs of attention to ethical principles in the data collection process (such as obtaining permission from others for the use of scales, questionnaires, documents) are presented,
• Research and publication ethics are compliance should be indicated in the articles.
The following ethical duties and responsibilities are written in the light of the guide and policies made by Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, and the publisher.

1. Publication and authorship:
· List of references, financial support;
· No plagiarism, no fraudulent data;
· Forbidden to publish same research in more than one journal.

2. Author’s responsibilities:
· Authors obliged to participate in peer review process;
· All authors have significantly contributed to the research;
· Statement that all data in article are real and authentic;
· All authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes.

3. Peer review / responsibility for the reviewers:
· Judgments should be objective;
· Reviewers should have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the research funders;
· Reviewers should point out relevant published work which is not yet cited;
· Reviewed articles should be treated confidentially.

4. Editorial responsibilities:
· Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article;
· Editors should have no conflict of interest with respect to articles they reject/accept;
· Only accept a paper when reasonably certain;
· When errors are found, promote publication of correction or retraction;
· Preserve anonymity of reviewers.
· No plagiarism, no fraudulent data.

5. Publishing ethics issues
· Monitoring/safeguarding publishing ethics by editorial board;
· Guidelines for retracting articles;
· Maintain the integrity of the academic record;
· Preclude business needs from compromising intellectual and ethical standards;
· Always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.

Duties of the Publisher
Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy is committed to ensure that commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful to editors. Finally, we are working closely with other publishers and industry associations to set standards for best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions–and are prepared to provide specialized legal review and counsel if necessary.

Plagiarism Detection
Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy uses single-blind review fulfilled by at least two reviewers. In addition, all articles are checked by means of a program (Ithenticate) in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism.

The peer review process is at the heart of the success of scientific publishing. As part of our commitment to the protection and enhancement of the peer review process, Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy has an obligation to assist the scientific community in all aspects of publishing ethics, especially in cases of (suspected) duplicate submission or plagiarism.
