Irkçı Şiddetin Sessiz Ortağı Olmak: Kuru Beyaz Bir Mevsim'de Güney Afrika Apartheid Rejimini Yeniden Hatırlamak

Öz

Bu çalışmanın ilgi odağında yirminci yüzyılın büyük bir bölümünde Güney Afrika’da yaşayan yerli halkları ırkçı sömürüye maruz bırakan Apartheid rejimine karşı verilen mücadeleyi konu alan sinema filmleri bulunmaktadır. Bu maksatla girişi takip eden bölümde, bölgenin keşfiyle başlayan ve doğal kaynaklarının sömürülmesiyle devam eden ırkçı rejimin taşlarının dizildiği tarihsel gelişmeler ele alınmaktadır. Diğer yandan sömürgeci ırkçılığın kurumsallaştığı yirminci yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren yerli halklar ve muhalif hareketler tarafından rejime karşı verilen mücadeleye geniş olarak değinilmektedir. Bu çerçevede çalışmanın araştırma evrenine toplam altı sinema filmi dâhil edilmekte ancak rejime karşı verilen mücadeleyi dramatik anlatısının odağına koyması nedeniyle A Dry White Season (Kuru Beyaz Bir Mevsim, 1989) adlı sinema filmi çalışmanın araştırma örneklemi olarak incelenmektedir. Dolayısıyla amaçlı örneklem yöntemiyle belirlenen sinema filminin seçiminde, dramatik anlatının omurgasını oluşturan “beyaz kahramanın tanık olduğu bir dizi olay neticesinde güvenli alanından çıkması ve ırkçı şiddet ve sınıf sömürüsüne dayalı maddi gerçekliğin farkına varması” etkili olduğu söylenebilir. Böylece çalışmanın merak odağını oluşturan “kahramanın maddi gerçekliği mağdurun gözünden görmesiyle değişen tercihleri ve ırkçı şiddetin sessiz ortağı olmama mücadelesi” betimsel analiz yöntemiyle anlaşılmaya gayret edilmektedir. Çalışma neticesinde, sinemanın muhalif hareketler ve toplumsal değişim üzerindeki tayin edici gücüne dikkat çekilmektedir.

Being a Quiet Partner of Racial Violence: Remembering South Africa Apartheid Regime in a Dry White Season

Öz

The focus of the study is the movies about the struggle against the Apartheid regime, which subjected the indigenous peoples living in South Africa to racist exploitation for most of the twentieth century. For this purpose, in the section that follows the introduction, the historical developments that started with the discovery of the region and continued with the exploitation of its natural resources, in which the stones of the racist regime were laid, are discussed. On the other hand, since the second half of the twentieth century, when colonial racism was institutionalized, the struggle against the regime by indigenous peoples and opposition movements has been extensively mentioned. In this framework, a total of six movies are included in the research universe of the study, but the movie named A Dry White Season (1989) is examined as the research sample of the study, since it puts the struggle against the regime at the center of its dramatic narrative. Therefore, it can be said that “the white hero's coming out of his comfort zone as a result of a series of events he witnessed and becoming aware of the material reality based on racist violence and class exploitation”, which constitutes the backbone of the dramatic narrative, was effective in the selection of the motion picture, which was determined by the purposeful sampling method. Thus, the study's focus of interest, “the hero’s changing preferences as he sees the material reality through the eyes of the victim and his struggle not to be a silent partner of racist violence” is attempted to be understood through descriptive analysis. As a result, the study draws attention to the decisive power of cinema on dissident movements and social change.
