The Effect of Grandmother Support on Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Level in The Postpartum Period: A Cross-Sectional Study

Öz

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of grandmother support on breastfeeding self-efficacy in the postpartum period.
Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in the Pediatrics Outpatient Clinic of a research hospital in a province in eastern Turkey between January and April 2022 with 213 mothers who had babies 0-42 days old after birth. Data were collected through a questionnaire and the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale- Short Form (BSES-SF). Percentage, mean, Independent Samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U Test, and Spearman Correlation analyses were used to evaluate the data.
Results: It was found that the average duration of staying with the grandmothers in the puerperium was 10.27±11.20 days, and 71.8% of them received support during the puerperium. It was determined that 61% of the grandmothers recommended food other than breast milk in the puerperium, 43.4% of those who made nutritional recommendations recommended formula, and 74.4% gave the recommended nutrients to their babies. It was determined that there was a significant difference between breastfeeding self-efficacy levels and the duration of stay in puerperium according to the mothers' receiving maternal support (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a positive correlation between the duration of feeding their babies with Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) and the total score of the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (BSES-SF) and the duration of staying with the grandmothers in the puerperium (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It was found that as the duration of staying with the grandmothers in the puerperium increased, the duration of feeding their babies with Exclusive Breastfeeding and the breastfeeding self-efficacy levels of the mothers increased.

Postpartum Dönemde Büyükanne Desteğinin Emzirme Öz Yeterlilik Düzeyine Etkisi: Kesitsel Bir Araştırma

Öz

Amaç: Postpartum dönemde büyükanne desteğinin emzirme öz yeterlilik üzerine etkisini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte olan araştırma, doğum sonrası 0-42 günlük bebeği olan 213 anne ile Ocak- Nisan 2022 tarihleri arasında Türkiye’nin doğusundaki bir ilin araştırma hastanesinin Pediatri Polikliniği’nde yürütülmüştür. Veriler anket formu ve Emzirme Öz Yeterlilik Ölçeği-Kısa Formu (EÖYÖ-KF) aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde yüzde, ortalama, T-testi, Mann Whitney U Testi ve Spearman Korelasyon analizleri kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Büyükannelerin lohusalıkta yanında kalma süresinin ortalama 10.27±11.20 gün olduğu, %71.8’inin lohusalık sürecinde destek aldığı bulunmuştur. Büyükannelerin lohusalıkta %61’inin anne sütü dışında besin önerdiği, besin önerisinde bulunanların %43.4’ünün mama önerdiği, %74.4’ünün önerilen besinleri bebeğine verdiği tespit edilmiştir. Annelerin büyükanne desteği alma durumlarına göre emzirme öz-yeterlilik düzeyleri ve lohusalıkta kalma süreleri arasında anlamlı bir fark olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Annelerin bebeklerini Sadece Anne Sütü (SAS) ile besleme süresi ile Emzirme Öz Yeterlilik Ölçeği- Kısa Formu (EÖYÖ-KF) toplam puanı arasında ve büyükannelerin lohusalıkta yanında kalma süresi arasında pozitif yönde ilişki olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0.05).
Sonuç: Lohusalık döneminde büyükannelerin lohusalıkta yanında kalma süresi arttıkça annelerin bebeklerini Sadece Anne Sütü ile besleme sürelerinin ve emzirme öz yeterlilik düzeylerinin arttığı bulunmuştur.
