The analysis employed a panel random-effects ordered probit model to investigate the relationship between socio-demographic and economic factors of individuals and the probabilities of alcohol consumption. The study utilized data from the 2019 Turkey Health Survey (TSA) conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). The findings of the study reveal a significant statistical association between the socio-demographic and economic factors of family members or the family itself and the likelihoods of alcohol consumption at specific levels. The research identified that, in comparison to females, males had a higher likelihood of alcohol consumption, as did employed individuals compared to the unemployed, those with formal education in contrast to those without, individuals with private health insurance as opposed to those without, those engaged in physical exercise compared to those who were not, those with depression in contrast to those without, smokers compared to non-smokers, and individuals with medium to high incomes in comparison to those with lower incomes. Furthermore, a negative relationship was observed between alcohol consumption likelihoods and factors such as being overweight, having children, fruit consumption, and having a large household. Notably, individuals with a high school or university education level exhibited higher likelihoods of alcohol consumption. Those who consumed alcohol were found to have a higher risk of smoking and experiencing depression.
