A Different View of Necrotizing Fasciitis : Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract

Necrotizing fasciitis is characterised as a rapidly progressive inflammatory infection of the fascia, and thereby the secondary necrosis of the subcutaneous tissues. The speed of spread is directly proportional to the thickness of the subcutaneous layer. The frequency of necrotizing fasciitis

has been on the rise because of an increase in immunocompromised patients with diabetes mellitus, cancer, alcoholism, vascular insufficiencies, organ transplants, HIV infection or neutropenia. So we aimed to highlight different clinical presentations of the necrotising fasciitis which could be seen in lower extremities more frequently.

Nekrotizan Fasiite Farklı Bir Bakış: Vaka Sunumu ve Literatürün Gözden Geçirilmesi

Abstract

Nekrotizan fasiit: hızlı ilerleyen, progresif inflamatuar fasya enfeksiyonu ve buna bağlı gelişen sekonder subkütan doku enfeksiyonu olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Yayılımın hızı ise subkutan tabakanın kalınlığıyla doğrudan ilişkilidir. Diabetes mellitus, kanser, alkolizm, vasküler yetmezlikler, HIV enfeksiyonu, nötropeni ve organ transplantları gibi patolojilerin immün sistemi baskılanmış hastalarda artış göstermesi nedeniyle nekrotizan fasiit sıklığı da artış göstermektedir. Bu nedenle alt ekstremitelerde görülme sıklığı daha da fazla olan bu patolojinin değişik klinik prezentasyonlarına

dikkat çekmeyi amaçladık.
