The Case of Thomas Lubanga Dyilo: The Implementation of a Fair and Public Trial at the Investigation Stage of International Criminal Court Proceedings

Abstract

When the Statute of the International Criminal Court (the ICC or the Court) was adopted by the international community on 17 July 1998, it was regarded as “a gift of hope to future generations, and a giant step forward in the march towards universal human rights and the rule of law.”1 Having reached the 60th ratification of the Statute in a short period of time, the Court came into being on 1 July 2002. As of March 2009, there were four cases which were brought before the ICC.
