The Female Gladiators in Ancient Rome

Abstract

One of the most thrilling institutions of the ancient world is the Gladiator Games of Ancient Rome, which has sustained from the beginning of the republic to the end of the empire. Both the ancient historians or the modern historians have researched these games as the subject of their studies and they have either hated these games and considered them as games to be habits of sick behavior, or admired them and evaluated them as exciting amusements. Despite the reality of the blood and the brutalities in the arenas, the gladiator games didnt only address the pleasures of the Romans, but in fact they had complex and sophisticated aspects. According to the historians these games were either a remaining habit of sacrifying traditions, or expression of the corruption that existed in Rome, or a tool that the political leaders used to increase their power. Regardless of the reasons of these games, the reputation of the gladiators who has taken part in these games, has spredt all over Roman Empire and the rest of the world of those times. The female gladiators has reached a reputation that overshadowed the male gladiators and they were perceived like the popstars of today.
