PARENT VIEWS ABOUT CHILDREN s INTERNET USAGE AIMED AT SOCIAL STUDIES ( EXAMPLE of ERZURUM)
Abstract
With this study, secondary school 6. and 7. grade students internet usage situations aimed at social sciences is tried to be determined from the point of parents. In the study, qualitative research approach has been adopted. Semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher has been used to collect datas. Target population of the study is consisted of 50 parents whose children are in 6. and 7. grade in Palandöken, Yakutiye and Aziziye districts of Erzurum. Parents in target population were determined via criterion sampling. Datas determined in the study were analyzed with content analyze. As a result of the interview, 84% of parents indicated that they take precaution for their childrens internet usage time. It has been observed that most of the parents who take precaution for internet using time have standard rules. In the parents meetings, it has been concluded that internet usage has benefits for Social sciences such as providing permanent knowledge, providing learning opportunity with visuality and video, providing quicker access to knowledge, providing opportunity to have idea and providing contemporary data.
