CompACT: Comprehensive Assessment of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes’ Validity and Relıability in Turkish Adolescents
Abstract
Background: The Comprehensive Assessment of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes (CompACT) is a self-report scale used to assess psychological flexibility. In the present study, we examined the psychometric properties of CompACT in Turkish adolescents.
Methods: The study included 199 adolescents (31.7% male) aged 13-18 years. The participants’ mean age was 14.66 ± 1.43 years. The socio-demographic form was completed by the researchers and the participants were administered the Turkish version of CompACT, Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), short version of Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SLS). For the retest study, the Turkish CompACT was applied to 23 adolescents again three weeks later.
Results: The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the Turkish CompACT, behavioral awareness subscale, the motivation and activation subscale, and the openness to experience subscale were 0.709, 0.786, 0.765, and 0.427, respectively. We found a significant correlation between the Turkish CompACT and BAI, CDI, DERS-16 and SLS, and the correlation coefficients (r) were -0.245, -0.466, -0.308 and 0.362, respectively. Test-retest reliability after three weeks was 0.6.
Conclusions: These results showed that the CompACT is a reliable and valid measure in the general Turkish adolescents. Additionally, the 18-item form has better construct validity than the original 23-item version.
