Dergimizin amacı bilimsel ve etik kurallar çerçevesinde ulusal ve uluslararası standartlara uygun temel ve klinik tıp bilimleri alanında bilimsel araştırma makalesi, derleme, olgu sunumu, teknik rapor, kısa bildiri, editöre mektup türünde yazıları yayımlamak ve kapsamına giren alanlarda akademik bilginin üretimi ve paylaşımına katkı sağlamaktır.


Acta Medica Nicomedia, Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi yayınıdır. Bilimsel ve etik kurallar çerçevesinde ulusal ve uluslararası standartlara uygun temel ve klinik tıp bilimleri alanında özgün araştırma makalesi, derleme, olgu sunumu, teknik rapor, kısa bildiri, editöre mektup türünde yazıları yayımlayan, periyodik, çevrimiçi ve çift kör akran hakemli bir dergidir. Türkçe ve İngilizce olarak yılda üç kez (Şubat, Haziran, Ekim aylarında) yayımlanır.

Instructions for Authors

Publication Policy

          Acta Medica Nicomedia is the publication organ of Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine.

          Acta Medica Nicomedia is published in February, June and October as three issues per year.

          Acta Medica Nicomedia is published in electronic media as open access within independent, unbiased  double-blinded peer review principles.

          Acta Medica Nicomedia publishes original research manuscripts, reviews, case reports, technical reports, short papers and letters to the editor in the field of basic and clinical medical sciences in accordance with national and international standards.

          The language of Acta Medica Nicomedia is Turkish and English.

          Acta Medica does not charge publication fees.

          The authors' credentials and e-mail addresses are not used for any other purpose.

          The publication and editorial processes of the journal are carried out according to the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journals (ICMJE). The journal complies with the principles of transparency and excellence of scientific periodicals (doaj.org/bestpractice).

          The manuscripts submitted to the journal go through a preliminary evaluation process which will ensure that the manuscript is prepared and presented in accordance with the rules of the journal. The editorial board has the authority not to publish the articles that do not comply with the publication rules, send them back to the author for editing and rearrange them. Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by at least two reviewers and published by the editorial board decision.

          Manuscripts submitted for publication in the journal should not have been previously published elsewhere and should not be submitted for publication. No copyright fee is paid to the authors for the articles published in the journal. The authors acknowledge that all publication rights of the manuscript belong to Acta Medica Nicomedia. “Copyright Transfer Form” and “Conflict of Interest Declaration Form” in which possible conflicts of interest are reported should be signed and submitted by all authors. Scientific and legal responsibility of the published articles belongs to the authors.

          Ethics Committee approvals must be obtained and documented. Authors should state that they comply with the international guidelines adopted in this field (Helsinki Declaration of 1964 and subsequent updates) and the relevant provisions of the regulations issued by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health.

Publication Policy

          Manuscripts submitted to our journal should not be accepted and published for publication in another journal (including full text posters exceeding 400 words) and should be prepared in accordance with scientific and ethical rules. Authors are responsible for the compliance of the articles with scientific and ethical rules (http://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/conflict-of-interest-disclosure-forms/).

          When clinical and experimental studies requiring an ethics committee decision are in subject, information about patient consent, the name of the ethics committee and approval number should be stated under the heading of  ‘Compliance with ethical standards’ at the end of the article.

          In documents based on retrospective (catalog) scans, a document indicating that it is allowed to work in the archive by the Head of Department, Chief Physician or other authorities is obligatory.

          For prospective clinical studies, approval of the Ethics Committee should be obtained in accordance with the regulation published in the Official Gazette of Turkish Republic dated 29.01.1993 and numbered 21480.

          It is the authors' responsibility to protect the confidentiality of patients in case reports. For the photos that may reveal the patient's identity, the patient consent form signed by the patient and / or their legal representatives must be obtained and written consent should be stated in the text.

          Attention should be paid to the principles and recommendations of publication ethics developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Directory Access Open Journals (DOAJ), Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME); Council of Science Editors (CSE), the International Committee of Medical Journals (ICJME) guidelines should be followed.

 

Plagiarism Policy

          Author(s) is requested to upload the similarity report to the system. All articles submitted to our journal are evaluated by plagiarism detection programs (iThenticate, Turnitin). The similarity rate is recommended to be 30% or less.

          The Editorial Board of the Journal handles all objections within the framework of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) rules. In such cases, authors should contact the editorial board directly about their appeals and complaints. If necessary, an ombudsman can be assigned to solve problems that cannot be solved internally. The Editor-in-Chief is the ultimate authority in the decision-making process for all appeals and complaints.

          Authors are deemed to accept the copyright of their articles to the journal when submitting an article to Acta Medica Nicomedia. If the author's work is rejected, the copyright of the manuscript is returned to the authors.

          Each article submitted to Acta Medica Nicomedia must be accompanied by the ‘Copyright Transfer Form’ (http://dergipark.gov.tr/journal/1126/submission/start) signed by all the authors.

          Authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder for figures, tables, or other materials, both printed and electronic, obtained from other sources. The legal, financial and criminal responsibility in this regard belongs to the authors.

          The final responsibility for the content of the articles published in Acta Medica Nicomedia belongs to the authors. The editors, editorial board and publisher do not accept any responsibility for these articles.

Title Page

          The file to be sent must have a ‘.doc’ extension.

          Turkish and English title of the manuscript, name of the author, academic title and institution, contact information of the responsible author (address, telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses), and name of the organization if there is any supporter of the research should be stated.

          The name, place and date of the organization should be indicated for the studies which have been notified in a congress and the abstract has been published.

          Turkish and English running  titles should not exceed 50 characters (including spaces).

          ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) numbers of all authors should be added.

Main Text

          Manuscripts should be written in double spaced 12 pt with Times New Roman character. There should be at least 2.5 cm margins on all sides of each page.

          The main text should not contain any information about the names and institutions of the authors.

          Original research should include a structured Abstract.

          Abstract should contain sections of Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusion.

          Abstract should be limited to 250 words. References, tables, citations and unexplained abbreviations should not be used in abstract.

          The number of keywords should be between 3-5, located below the end of the abstract

          Comma sign (p <0,05) should be used in Turkish text and dot sign should be used in English text (p <0.05) while specifying decimal numbers. When percentage is reported, the percentage sign (%) must precede the number (%45) in Turkish texts but it is vice versa (45%) in English texts.

          All abbreviations used in the article should be defined at first use. The abbreviation should be given in parentheses after the definition. When referring to a drug, product, hardware or software program in the main text, product information (including the state in the United States), including the name of the product, the manufacturer of the product, the manufacturing city and the country of the producing company, must be enclosed in parentheses.

Tables and Figures

          All tables should be indicated in parentheses at the end of the relevant sentence where they appear in the text with the consecutive table numbers in the main text.

          The table, table titles and descriptions should be at the end of the main text.

          Tables should be arranged with a horizontal border at the top and bottom of the table header and also below the bottom row , and a vertical border to the right of the first column.

          A description of the symbols, if any, should appear below the table.

          Figures, graphics and photos must be uploaded as separate files.

          Figures should be presented in one of the formats .jpg, .jpeg, .tiff, .png, .doc.

          Photos and scans taken with a digital camera must be at least 300 dpi resolution, 1280x960 pixels and saved in .jpg, .jpeg, .png or .tiff formats.

          Figure captions should be listed at the end of the references section in the main text.

          A description of the symbols, if any, should appear below the figures.

          Written informed consent must be obtained from the patient and / or their legal representative for any photograph used and no recognition of the patient should be permitted in the photograph.

Referencing

          AMA (American Medical Association) style is used for the citation.

References in Text

References should be numbered consecutively in the main text and source numbers should be given as superscripts.

Previously used reference should be written with the same number.

If there is more than one reference, references should be separated with a comma.

For consecutive references, the first and last reference must be separated by “-".

In the sentences where more than one author name is mentioned, references should be cited just above the author.

Listing of resources at the end of the text

References at the end of the manuscript should be listed according to the first order in the text. If the number of authors in the reference is 6 or less (≼6), all authors should be indicated. If more than 6, only the first 3 names should be given, and term of “et al.” should follow after the names of three authors. References should be presented at the end of the text according to the number of authors.

Single author: Surname AA.

Two authors: Surname AA, Surname BB.

Six authors: Surname AA, Surname BB, Surname CC, Surname DD, Surname EE, Surname FF. (All author names should be written without abbreviation.)

More than six authors: Surname AA, Surname BB, Surname CC, et al.  (The names of the three authors should be written without abbreviation)

          Author's Last Name Initial letter of the author's name (s). Name of the article. Short name of the journal in italic. Publication year;Volume no(Issue):page number(s).

 

          Journal names should be abbreviated in italics in accordance with the journal abbreviations in Index Medicus / Medline / PubMed. A journal not included in the NLM catalog must be written without abbreviation.

Withdrawal or Rejection

          Authors who want to withdraw the article and publish it elsewhere due to delay in the evaluation process of the submitted article and other reasons, may withdraw it from the journal with a written application.

          Manuscripts that are not accepted for publication are sent back with reason. Fifteen days are allowed for the articles that require correction during the pre-control phase while it is 30 days for the articles in the post-control phase. If these periods are exceeded, the text may be rejected.

After acceptance

          If the manuscript is accepted, the acceptance letter is sent to the responsible author within two weeks. The final version of the manuscript before the publication is submitted to the author's final control.

          The journal owner and editorial board are authorized to decide in which issue of the manuscripts to be published.

          Authors can publish their manuscripts on their personal or corporate websites after admission by adhering to appropriate quotation and library rules.

§ Derginin yayın ve editöryal süreçleri Uluslararası Tıp Dergileri Editörler Kurulu (ICMJE) yönergesine göre yürütülmektedir. Dergi, bilimsel süreli yayımların şeffaflık ve mükemmellik ilkelerine uymaktadır (doaj.org/bestpractice).

§ Dergiye gönderilen yazılar, öncelikle yazının dergi kurallarına uygun olarak hazırlanmasını ve sunulmasını sağlayacak ön değerlendirme sürecinden geçer. Editör kurulu, yayın kurallarına uymayan yazıları yayımlamamak, düzeltmek üzere yazara geri göndermek ve biçim olarak yeniden düzenleme yetkisine sahiptir. Gönderilen yazılar en az iki hakem tarafından değerlendirildikten sonra editor kurulu kararı ile yayımlanır.

§ Dergide yayımlanmak üzere gönderilen yazılar, daha önce başka bir yerde yayımlanmamış ve yayımlanmak üzere gönderilmemiş olmalıdır. Dergide yayımlanan makaleler için yazarlara telif ücreti ödenmez. Yazarlar yazının tüm yayın haklarının Acta Medica Nicomedia’ya ait olduğunu kabul ederler. ‘Telif Hakkı Devir Formu’ (link) ve olası çıkar çatışmalarının bildirildiği ‘Çıkar Çatışması Beyan Formu’ (link) bütün yazarlarca imzalanıp gönderilmelidir. Yayımlanan yazıların bilimsel ve hukuki sorumluluğu yazarlara aittir.

§ Yayıma gönderilen yazıların etik kurul onayları alınmış ve belgelendirilmiş olmalıdır. Yazar(lar) bu alanda kabul edilen uluslararası kılavuzlara (1964 Helsinki Deklarasyonu ve bunun daha sonraki güncellemeleri) ve T.C. Sağlık Bakanlığı tarafından düzenlenen yönetmeliklerin ilgili hükümlerine uyulduğunu belirtmelidir.

Yayın Etiği


§ Dergimize gönderilen yazıların daha önce başka bir dergide yayım için kabul edilmemiş ve yayımlanmamış olması (400 kelimeyi aşan tam metin poster bildiriler dahil), bilimsel ve etik kurallara uygun şekilde hazırlanması gereklidir. Yazarlar, makalelerin bilimsel ve etik kurallara uygunluğundan sorumludur (http://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/conflict-of-interest-disclosure-forms/).

§ Etik kurul kararı gerektiren klinik ve deneysel çalışmalar için hasta onamı, etik kurulun adı ve onay numarası ile ilgili bilgiler makalenin en sonunda ‘Etik standartlara uygunluk’ başlığı altında belirtilmelidir.

§ Retrospektif (katalog) taramalara dayalı yazılarda etik kurul onayı gerekmektedir.

§ Prospektif klinik çalışmalar için yönetmeliğe uygun bir şekilde Etik Kurulu onayı alınmalıdır.

§ Olgu sunumlarında hastaların gizliliğini korumak, yazarların sorumluluğundadır. Hasta kimliğini ortaya çıkarabilecek fotoğraflar için, hasta ve/veya yasal temsilcileri tarafından imzalanan hasta onam formunun alınması ve yazılı onay alındığının metin içerisinde belirtilmesi gereklidir.

Dergi Aşırma Politikası (İntihal İlkesi)

§ Yazar(lar) tarafından benzerlik raporunun sisteme yüklenmesi istenir. Dergimize gönderilen tüm yazılar intihal tespit etme programları (iThenticate, Turnitin) ile değerlendirilmektedir. Benzerlik oranının %30 ve altı olması önerilmektedir.

§ Derginin Editör Kurulu, tüm itirazları Yayın Etik Komitesi (COPE) kuralları çerçevesinde ele alır. Bu gibi durumlarda, yazarlar temyiz ve şikayetleri ile ilgili olarak editör kuruluyla doğrudan iletişime geçmelidir. Gerektiğinde, dahili olarak çözülemeyen sorunları çözmek için bir ombudsman atanabilir. Baş Editör, tüm temyiz ve şikayetler için karar verme sürecindeki nihai otoritedir.

§ Yazarlar, Acta Medica Nicomedia’ya bir makale gönderirken makalelerinin telif hakkını dergiye vermeyi kabul etmiş sayılır. Eğer yazarın çalışmasının basılması reddedilirse, yazının telif hakkı yazarlara geri verilir.

§ Acta Medica Nicomedia’ya gönderilen her makale, adı geçen yazarların tümünün imzaladığı ‘Telif Hakkı Devir Formu’ (http://dergipark.gov.tr/journal/1126/submission/start) ile birlikte gönderilmelidir.

§ Başka kaynaklardan alınan şekiller, tablolar veya hem basılı hem de elektronik ortamdaki diğer materyaller için yazarların telif hakkı sahibinden izin almaları gerekir. Bu husustaki hukuki, mali ve cezai sorumluluk yazarlara aittir.
