Using The Films in Teaching Turkish to Foreigners (The Example of The Film Selvi Boylum Al Yazmalım)
Abstract
The effect of films which used in the field of teaching foreign languages, about teaching the cultures of the target languages to students is known worldwide. When cultural education is thought to attract the attention of students, importance of the study in the field of teaching Turkish to foreigners will be understood. The purpose of this research is to measure how the use of films in the teaching of foreign languages makes the environment for students to recognize Turkish cultural elements. Descriptive scanning method was used in the study. The answers of the students to the questions were analyzed by a document review which is one of the qualitative research methods. In the data collection process, questions which was prepared by the researcher result of literature scanning were asked to the students. The obtained data were analyzed in three applications. First, the answers given by each student were classified. Then the responses for each application were passed on to the Microsoft Office excel 2013 program, where they were analyzed and finally the results for the answers given to each question were interpreted. The obtained data show that culturel ıtems can be taught more efficiently using films than traditional methods as a result of teacher orientation. The interest in the movies by the students has increased the fruitful to learn, the cultural elements presented visually, the dry knowledge has gone far beyond and has become permanent.
