KNOWLEDGE OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT AMONG DENTAL STUDENTS

Year 2022, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 1 - 9, 28.04.2022

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of orthodontic treatment among the dental students in a university.
Methods: The 120 students were asked to complete a questionnaire that contains 6 questions about orthodontics. The participants were between the ages of 18 and 21 (mean age 20±1.54), and all of them were in their first year of education.
Results: 69% of respondents stated that the presence of teeth or jaw anomalies may influence the appearance of a person, 78% reported that teeth or jaw anomalies may effect the self-confidence of a person, 89% told that they have no idea about the impact of teeth or jaw anomalies on quality of life, 56% respondents noted they do not like the appearance of brackets, 68% told that they have known the presence of lingual orthodontics, and 45% of the respondents noted that they think it is possible to perform orthodontic treatment after the age of 18.
Conclusion: Most of the participants have rightly evaluated the impact of orthodontic problems on facial appearance and self-confidence but they could not make a relationship between quality of life. Informing about orthodontics should perform in our population.

DİŞ HEKİMLİĞİ FAKÜLTESİ ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN ORTODONTİK TEDAVİ BİLGİLERİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2022, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 1 - 9, 28.04.2022
