Abstract

INTRODUCTION: In Turkey, the rate of adolescents who get involved in forensic systems is increasing, but research in this field is limited. In our study, we aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinical features of adolescents who were referred for forensic reports in Rize, Turkey. METHODS: Psychiatric records of a total of 64 cases who were admitted to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Unit for forensic evaluation between November 1, 2015, and June 1, 2020, were retrospectively examined. RESULTS: Of all reports requested, 61.7% n = 29 were for juveniles pushed to crime JPTC and 38.3% n = 18 were for victims. The majority were living in middle-scale settlements 67.2% with both parents 71.9% and had lower school success 85.9% . The majority of JPTCs were male and victims were female p < 0.001 . The rate of sexual abuse SA victims was 20.3%. The age of the case subjects was significantly lower for reports involving crime elements p < 0.001 and SA p = 0.006 . SA cases had a higher rate of females p = 0.021 and school success p = 0.009 . CONCLUSION: The majority of requests were made for JPTC and questioned the child’s ability to perceive the legal meaning and results of the act. The majority of cases attended school regularly despite their lower school success rate. This indicates the possible effects of negative environmental factors that may occur in the school environment. Studies with a larger sample size and breadth are needed to thoroughly identify the features of forensic cases so that processes can operate properly and appropriate interventions can be implemented.
