Abstract

Abstract

ONJECTIVE: We aimed to test whether the numerical value of the visually assessed epiphysis size, which constitutes basis of staging, can be used to identify the age threshold of 18 years. METHODS: Male and female cases between 15 and 25 years of age were selected retrospectively. The subjects were comprised of a total of 192 males and females who were at the stages 2 and 3 according to Schmelling’s method comprised our study population. Medial clavicular metaphysis transverse diameter and the area of the epiphysis were measured, then epiphysis/metaphysis ratio were calculated.RESULTS: The mean values of Epiphysis/metaphysis ratio; the mean values of participants older than 18 years of age -regardless of sex- were greater than that of participants younger than 18 years of age p
