A Case of Constipation in Omasum, ‘Forgotten Stomach’

Year 2012, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 27 - 30, 01.01.2012

Abstract

The omasum, last part of the ruminant forestomach, has been recognized as ‘forgotten stomach’ due to its topographic location accessible for clinical examination by palpation, percussion, or auscultatio, nor can be visualized via radiography. Omasal leaves provide absorption of water and minerals dissolved in water, besides volatile fatty acids and other substances. Omasum impaction is one of the most frequent disorder causing omasal transport deficiency. In etiology primary reasons such as unqualified, freezed and spoiled rough food involved in raiton play role, besides diminished water consumption and vitamin and mineral deficincies. In the present article clinical appearence, medical and surgical combined therapy of omasum impaction in a 3.5 years old bull probably caused by ration was described, along with limited literature review.

‘Unutulmuş Mide’ Omasum’da Konstipasyon Olgusu

Year 2012, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 27 - 30, 01.01.2012
