ANXIETY LEVEL CAUSED BY AN INTRAVASCULER CONTRAST SUBSTANCE INFORMATION FORM IN PATIENTS AND INFLUENCING FACTORS

Year 2016, Volume: 49 Issue: 2, 79 - 86, 01.08.2016

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: In radiological applications, administration of an information form IF aimed to raise awareness of patients on possible risks associated with intravenous contrast substance IVCS administration is becoming more significant gradually. In this study, anxiety levels that could be caused by IF administration in patients who are to receive IVCS were measured in computerized tomography studies; effect of i general cares of life and ii education level and iii age on this anxiety has been investigated.MATERIALS AND METHODS: 236 subjects who applied to our Radiology Clinic for an IF investigation participated in the study voluntarily and their education levels were recorded priorly. The patients were grouped as group I patients who do not require IVCS , group II those who require IVCS and have no medical complications and group III those who require IVCS and have medical complications . Group II and III were given an IF. All patients were asked to complete a inventory of state anxiety STAI-1 to measure their momentary anxiety level and consant anxiety inventory STAI-2 to measure their general cares of life prior to the investigation. Patients’ momentary anxiety measurements were reevaluated by the STAI-1 form following the investigation.RESULTS: There were no statistical differences between general cares of life points of each group prior to and after the investigation. When momentary point averages were studied, the highest difference before and after the investigation was again in group III who required IVCS but did not receive it due to medical complications. However these influences were reevaluated after statistical convertions due to the fact that general cares of life, patient group, education levels and age may have contribution. CONCLUSION: In the evaluation of momentary anxiety raised by patient enlightening with an IF administration prior to IVCS, it was found that an IF does not have an additional contribution on patient anxiety, even though general cares of life and education has an effect

İNTRAVASKULER KONTRAST MADDE BİLGİLENDİRME FORMUNUN HASTADA OLUŞTURDUĞU ANKSİYETE DERECESİ VE BUNU ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER

Year 2016, Volume: 49 Issue: 2, 79 - 86, 01.08.2016
