Evaluation of the Relationship Between Endometrial Thickness and IVF Success

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between endometrial thickness measured on the day of embryo transfer and the results of in vitro fertilization-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF-ICSI).

Materials and Methods: 740 women who applied to Maltepe University Medical Faculty Training and Research Hospital IVF Clinic due to infertility were included in the study. The patients' age, infertility duration, basal follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level, basal estradiol (E2) level and body mass index, fertilization and pregnancy rates were evaluated. Endometrial thickness was measured by transvaginal USG (TV USG) on the day of embryo transfer. A total of 4 groups were created. Group 1 included patients with endometrial thickness less than 7 mm. Group 2 included patients with endometrial thickness between 7-11 mm. Group 3 included patients with endometrial thickness between 11-14 mm and group 4 patients with endometrial thickness greater than 14 mm.

Results: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age, infertility duration, basal FSH level, basal E2 level, anti mullerian hormon (AMH) and body mass index. The clinical pregnancy rates in group 1 were significantly lower than the other groups (p<0.05). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of the number of oocytes retrieved or fertilization rates.

Conclusion: Having an endometrial thickness of less than 7 mm on the day of transfer significantly reduces pregnancy rates.

Endometriyal Kalınlık ile IVF Başarısı Arasındaki İlişkinin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı embriyo transfer gününde ölçülen endometrium kalınlığı ile in vitro fertilizasyon-intrastoplazmik sperm injeksiyonu (IVF-ICSI) sonuçları arasındaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmektir.

Araçlar ve Yöntem: Maltepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Tüp Bebek Kliniği’ne infertilite nedeniyle başvuran 740 kadın çalışmaya dahil edildi. Hastaların yaş, infertilite süresi, bazal follikül stimülan hormon (FSH) düzeyi, basal estradiol (E2) düzeyi ve vücut kitle indeksi, fertilizasyon ve gebelik oranları değerlendirildi. Hastalara embriyo transfer gününde transvaginal USG (TV USG) ile endometrial kalınlık ölçümü yapıldı. Toplam 4 grup oluşturuldu. Grup 1’de endometrium kalınlığı 7 mm’nin altında olan hastalar yer aldı. Grup 2 endometrium kalınlığı 7-11 mm arasında olan hastaları kapsamaktaydı. Grup 3 endometrium kalınlığı 11-14 mm arasında olan, grup 4 ise endometrium kalınlığı 14 mm’den büyük olan hastaları içermekteydi.

Bulgular: Yaş, infertilite süresi, bazal FSH düzeyi, basal E2 düzeyi, anti müllerian hormon (AMH) düzeyi ve vücut kitle indeksi açısından gruplar arasında anlamlı bir fark yoktu. Grup 1’deki klinik gebelik oranları diğer gruplardan anlamlı şekilde daha düşüktü (p<0.05). Toplanan oosit sayısı ya da fertilizasyon oranları açısından gruplar arasında anlamlı bir fark yoktu.

Sonuç: Transfer günündeki endometrial kalınlığın 7 mm’nin altında olması gebelik oranlarını anlamlı şekilde azaltmaktadır.
