Letter to the Editor: “The Effectiveness of Mediterranean Diet in Morbid Obese Patients After Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy”

Abstract

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease in our country and in the world. In the pathogenesis of NAFLD, lipid accumulation in the liver and peripheral insulin resistance play an important role. In the current literature, there are clinical studies examining the role of many medical agents, surgical methods, and diets in the treatment of NAFLD. However, the role of the Mediterranean diet in the treatment of NAFLD is not clear and prospective randomized controlled studies are needed.

Abstract

Alkolik olmayan yağlı karaciğer hastalığı (AOYKH) ülkemizde ve dünyada en sık izlenen kronik karaciğer hastalığıdır. Hastalığın patogenezinde karaciğerde lipid birikimi ve periferik insülin direnci rol oynar. Güncel literatürde, birçok medikal ajan, cerrahi yöntem ve diyetin AOYKH tedavisindeki rolünü inceleyen klinik araştırma bulunmaktadır. Bununla beraber Akdeniz diyetinin AOYKH tedavisindeki rolü net değildir ve prospektif, randomize kontrollü çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
