Abstract

Murat Özkan’ın Semerkant Tarihi adlı eseri, Semerkant şehrinin tarihini, kültürünü, ekonomisini ve mimari yapısını kapsamlı bir biçimde ele alan bir çalışmadır. Eser, “Sunuş”, “Önsöz” ve “Giriş” bölümlerinin ardından üç ana bölüm üzerinden Semerkant’ın tarihî coğrafyası, inkıraz ve inkişaf dönemleri ile kültürel, iktisadi ve mimari özelliklerini incelemektedir. Özkan, şehrin Türk hakimiyeti, Arap akınları, Moğol ve Timurlular dönemi, Özbekler yönetimi ve Rus-Sovyet idaresi sürecini titiz bir kronoloji ile sunarken, Semerkant’ın bilim, kültür, dil ve edebiyat açısından önemini vurgulamaktadır. Eserde ayrıca İpek Yolu’nun şehrin ekonomik ve kültürel gelişimindeki rolü ile Registan Meydanı, Uluğ Bey Medresesi, Bibi Hanım Camisi gibi önemli mimari yapılar detaylı şekilde aktarılmıştır. Türk Tarih Kurumu’nun Genel Okuyucu Dizisi kapsamında yayımlanan çalışma, hem akademik düzeyde hem de tarih meraklıları için anlaşılır bir dille hazırlanmış olup, Semerkant tarih ve kültür araştırmaları literatürüne değerli bir katkı sunmaktadır.

Abstract

Murat Özkan's "History of Samarkand" is a comprehensive study of the city's history, culture, economy, and architectural structure. Following the "Preface," "Preface," and "Introduction," the work examines Samarkand's historical geography, its periods of decline and development, and its cultural, economic, and architectural characteristics through three main sections. Özkan meticulously presents the city's history under Turkish rule, Arab raids, the Mongol and Timurid periods, Uzbek rule, and Russian-Soviet rule, emphasizing Samarkand's importance in terms of science, culture, language, and literature. The work also provides a detailed account of the Silk Road's role in the city's economic and cultural development, as well as important architectural structures such as Registan Square, Ulugh Beg Madrasa, and Bibi Khanum Mosque. Published as part of the Turkish Historical Society's General Reader Series, the study is prepared in a language understandable to both academics and history enthusiasts, and offers a valuable contribution to the literature on Samarkand history and culture studies.
