In recent times, when it comes to technology, social media comes to mind with computers, mobile phones, and the Internet. Undoubtedly, these discoveries, which provide great benefits to humanity in the 21st century, also contain some negativity within it. The most important of these is the emergence of a new language in the technological environment and deformation of the mother tongue The aim of this study is to determine the usage errors of Turkish language in Whatsapp Messenger correspondence which is used widely in the world and among young people; to develop suggestions for moving the language cons- ciousness to the virtual environment. The study is a qualitative study based on a document analysis method. A single question questionnaire was applied in order to reveal the language consciousness of high school students. The words, terms, emojis, and stereotypes of the 127 volunteer students who were determined to use Whatsapp very intensively were recorded. In the analysis of the data, 5 different classifications have been made including sound usage, word usage, sentence usage, spelling, and emoji usage. Each classifi- cation includes subcategories. However, during the classifications, the categorization created by Yaman and Erdoğan (2007:239) was also utilized. As a result of the research; Similar to other studies, it was determined that the language of writing, which was not followed by the students, was sloppy, defective and argos. As a difference; It is seen that students prefer to communicate with emojis rather than writing words, abbreviating and creating sentences in Whatsapp.
