The Analysis of Unemployment Trap in the European Union Countries by Dynamic Panel Data Analysis

Abstract

Throughout the history of economics, unemployment has always been a fundamental problem to be solved for the world economies. To fight against unemployment, societies make efforts to protect unemployed individuals in accordance with their development phases. This phenomenon is more likely to be seen in developed economies. Unemployment trap occurs when benefits from an unemployment fund exceeds incomes from when a person becomes employed which case has been a vital problem in the high income economies such as Euro-zone countries. This study aims to analyze the unemployment trap fact in the EU area employing dynamic panel data analysis. According to the results, a positive correlation is found between unemployment insurance and unemployment rate.
