Therapeutic ultrasound and effectiveness in knee osteoarthritis

Abstract

In Turkey, ultrasound is one of the most commonly used methods for physical therapy of knee osteoarthritis. Therapeutic ultrasound affects the cells and tissues by thermal and nonthermal ways. As well as being used as an agent for deep heating, it has effects like stimulation of tissue regeneration, soft tissue repair, regulation of blood flow in chronic ischemic tissues, protein synthesis and bone repair.In this manuscript, detailed technical information on ultrasound is given and studies on knee osteoarthritis in recent years are reviewed.

Terapötik Ultrason ve Diz Osteoartritinde Etkinliği

Abstract

Türkiye'de uygulanan fizik tedavi yaklaşımları içinde osteoartritte ultrason kullanımı oldukça yaygındır. Terapötik ultrason hücreler ve dokular üzerinde termal ve nontermal yolla etki eder. Derin ısıtıcı olarak kullanılmasının yanı sıra doku rejenerasyonunun uyarılması, yumuşak doku onarımı, kronik iskemik dokularda kan akımı düzenlenmesi, protein sentezi ve kemik onarımı gibi etkileri vardır. Bu derlemede ultrason ile ilgili detaylı teknik bilgiler verilmiş ve son yıllarda diz osteoartritli hastalarda yapılmış olan çalışmalar gözden geçirilmiştir
