THE EFFECT OF DECISION-MAKING STYLES OF MANAGERS ON EMPLOYEES’ MOTIVATION AND PERFORMANCE

Abstract

The study investigates the effect of managers’ decision-making style on employee motivation and performance as well as the moderator role of motivation in decision-making style and performance relationship. In the study adopting the quantitative approach, data are obtained from 147 people with the distribute - collect survey method. Simple and multiple linear regression methods are utilized to analyze data. To results, while rational and intuitive decision-making styles affect motivation, increasing intrinsic motivation substantially improves performance. Rational and dependent decision-making styles affect performance, and it is revealed that there is a moderator role of the motivation in decision-making styles and performance relationships. The fact that the performance is largely explained by intrinsic motivation reveals the importance of employee motivation. It can be suggested that intrinsic motivation of employees should be increased to improve performance.

YÖNETİCİLERİN KARAR VERME BİÇİMİNİN ÇALIŞANLARIN MOTİVASYONU VE PERFORMANSI ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, yöneticilerin karar verme biçimlerinin çalışanların motivasyonu ve performansına etkisinin yanı sıra karar verme biçimleri-performans ilişkisinde motivasyonun aracılık etkisi araştırılmıştır. Nicel yöntemin benimsendiği çalışmada 147 kişiden dağıt-topla anket yöntemi ile veri toplanmıştır. Veri analizinde basit ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Bulgulara göre, rasyonel ve sezgisel karar verme biçimleri motivasyon düzeyini etkilemekteyken içsel motivasyon düzeyindeki artış performansı önemli ölçüde arttırmaktadır. Rasyonel ve bağımlı karar verme biçimleri performansı etkilemektedir ve karar verme biçimleri-performans ilişkisinde motivasyonun aracılık etkisi saptanmıştır. Sonuçta, performansın büyük ölçüde içsel motivasyona bağlı olması motivasyonunun önemini ortaya koymuştur. Performansı iyileştirmek için çalışanların içsel motivasyonlarını arttırmak gerektiği önerilebilir
