The Narrow Corridor: States, Societies and the Future of Freedom

Abstract

"The Narrow Corridor: States, Societies and the Future of Freedom" which is written by Daron Acemoğlu and James A. Robinson, was published in September 2019. The Turkish version translated by Yüksel Taşkın met with the readers in January 2020. Wwriters, economist and political scientist, have argued that the competition between the state and society will create more capacity for states by examining the power relationship between society and the state with historical examples. In the book, which focuses on the concept of freedom, the issue of how a shackled state despite its high capacity should be balanced by a strong civil society is discussed. Warnings were made for today's societies in the light of the theoretical framework reached by making inferences from mythological and historical events.

Dar Koridor: Devletler, Toplumlar ve Özgürlüğün Geleceği

Abstract

Daron Acemoğlu ve James A. Robinson tarafından kaleme alınan “Dar Koridor: Devletler, Toplumlar ve Özgürlüğün Geleceği” Eylül 2019’da piyasaya çıkmıştır. Ocak 2020’de ise Yüksel Taşkın’ın çevirmenliğini yaptığı Türkçe versiyonu okurlar ile buluşmuştur. Ekonomist ve siyaset bilimci yazarlar, toplum ve devlet arasındaki güç ilişkisini tarihsel örnekler ile ele alarak devlet ile toplum arasındaki rekabetin daha fazla devlet kapasitesi oluşturacağı çıkarımında bulunmuşlardır. Odak noktasında özgürlük kavramının bulunduğu kitabın genelinde, yüksek kapasiteli olmasına rağmen prangalanmış bir devletin güçlü sivil toplum tarafından nasıl dengelenmesi gerektiği ele alınmıştır. Mitolojik ve tarihsel olaylardan çıkarımlar yapılarak ulaşılan kuramsal çerçeve ışığında günümüz toplumlarına yönelik uyarılarda bulunulmuştur.
