Examination of Affecting Variables for Youth Unemployment with Cointegration Analysis

Abstract

The increase in the youth unemployment rates in the face of the rapidly increasing population in recent years reveals that the employment status of the young population is not sufficient. Therefore, examination of young unemployment is of great importance. In this study; using from the annual world bank data for the period 1988-2015, the long-run relationship between young unemployment rate in Turkey, higher education enrollment rate and population growth rate was examined by Johansen Cointegration Analysis. Analysis of the data used Eviews 8 program. Long-term problems have been eliminated with the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Findings at the end of the study revealed the existence of a long-term positive relationship between higher school enrollment rate and population growth rate on youth unemployment.

Eşbütünleşme Analizi İle Genç İşsizliği Etkileyen Değişkenlerin Araştırılması

Öz

Son yıllarda hızla artan nüfus karşısında genç işsizlik oranlarının yükselmesi, genç nüfusun istihdam durumunun yeterli olmadığını ortaya koymaktadır. Dolayısıyla genç işsizliğinin incelenmesi büyük önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmada; 1988-2015 dönemine ait yıllık dünya bankasından elde edilen veriler kullanılarak Türkiye’de genç işsizlik oranı, yükseköğretim okullaşma oranı ve nüfus artış hızı arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki Johansen Eşbütünleşme analizi yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Verilerin analiz edilmesinde Eviews 8 programı kullanılmıştır. Uzun dönemde karşılaşılan sorunlar ise Vektör Hata Düzeltme Modeli (VECM) ile giderilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen bulgular, yükseköğretim okullaşma oranı ve nüfus artış hızının genç işsizliği üzerinde uzun dönemde pozitif bir ilişkinin varlığını ortaya koymuştur.
