ROMA SANATINDA KORUYUCU RUH: GENİUS KİŞİLEŞTİRMESİ

Abstract

Roma’da bir ailenin ve evin atalarının ruhları tarafından korunduğu inancı vardır. Bu inanç başlangıçta evlerin koruyucu tanrısı olan Lares ve ailenin koruyucusu babası olan Pater familias kavramları altında ortaya çıkmıştır. Roma’ya özgü bir kavram olan Genius ise, her insanın ve her yerin bir koruyucu ruhu olarak kabul edilmiştir. Genius kavramı Roma’da Genius ancak Augustus’un ölümünden sonra, Augustus’un ruhunun kişileştirmesi olan Genius Augusti kavramının ortaya çıkmasıyla resmiyet kazanmıştır. Genellikle Roma İmparatorluk Dönemi sanatında betimlemelerine rastlanmaktadır. Bu dönemde çoğunlukla plastik eserler ve sikkeler üzerinde tasvir edilmiştir. Bu betimlemelerde de temsil ettiği kişinin veya grubun cinsiyetine göre kadın ya da erkek olarak tasvir edilmiştir. Roma Dönemine ait bir kavram olsada, daha öncesinde farklı medeniyetlerde farklı isimlerde karşımıza çıkmaktadır.
