FAREWELL
Dear Readers, Esteemed Authors, and Valuable Scientific Advisors,
As we write these lines, we share the sadness of announcing the decision to cease publication of ANKEM journal, which has been a part of our country's scientific community for 38 years, and the pride of having served as editors in such a long-established journal. This journey, undertaken with the aim of contributing to the production, sharing, and development of scientific knowledge through objective criticism, comes to an end with this issue. Since its inception, our journal has brought together researchers from different disciplines, facilitating the publication of high-quality and original works. Since its launch in 1987 under the editorship of Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Töreci, it has not only played a role in sharing valuable and meaningful scientific works but has also strived to undertake a constructive role as a guiding school, especially for young scientists, in presenting their research. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Derya Aydın and assistant editors Dolunay Gülmez and Deniz Bahar Akgün Karapınar who took over the baton in 2012, worked with the same care and attention. As the last editorial team, we took over in 2021 and continued on the same path with the same principles. Throughout this long process, we not only presented scientific outputs by adopting the changing and developing principles of scientific publishing, but we also aimed to be a platform that emphasizes the importance of academic ethics, transparency, and critical thinking. Our journal was included in the TR Dizin (TR Index) in 2004, an important step taken to ensure the quality of scientific publishing in our country. We were also accepted into the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), one of the important addresses for quality open access publishing, in 2024. For each article, we strived to ensure that the work reached readers in its best form and was visible, being aware of the effort involved in producing the scientific data, and we proudly undertook our scientific responsibility in this process. The greatest share in the success of our journal undoubtedly belongs to our valuable authors. We owe a debt of gratitude to each of them individually for entrusting their work to us and placing their trust in our journal. Furthermore, we express our gratitude to our scientific advisors, who are the greatest factor determining the quality of our journal, for their dedicated and often unseen efforts. As editor, I also want to take this opportunity to express my thanks to our editorial board. Our associate editors, whose support I received at every step and who acted with great meticulousness and a sense of responsibility in their work, made significant contributions to the continuity and quality of our journal. Our team, consisting of Prof. Dr. Sebahat Aksaray, Prof. Dr. Tutku Soyer, Prof. Dr. Selda Hançerli Törün, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Kazak, worked with great dedication and meticulousness throughout this journey. I believe that our experiences in this process will shed light on future scientific collaborations. The decision to close our journal was not an easy one. It was inevitable as a result of changing publishing dynamics, resource constraints, and transformations in the academic world. However, we know that the traces of Journal of ANKEM, which has maintained its place in the Turkish scientific community for a long time, will continue to exist on different platforms and in new forms. Looking back, we conclude this process with pride, knowing that the works we published have contributed to the scientific community. I extend my sincerest thanks to everyone who has been with us on this journey—our authors, scientific advisors, editors, readers, and of course, the ANKEM Association management, especially our late association president, Prof. Dr. Bülent Gürler. With the hope of meeting again on different platforms in the light of science.
Sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Dolunay Gülmez
Editor, Journal of ANKEM
