Abstract

Abstract
Brucellosis is a bacterial infectious disease that can be transmitted by consumption of unpasteurized milk and dairy products and through direct contact of secretions from infected animals with the skin with impaired integrity. It remains a significant public health issue in our country. The aim of this study was to investigate Brucella seroprevalence and the risk factors associated with brucellosis in Istanbul. Sera from 467 patients who were sent to medical microbiology laboratories with suspicion of brucellosis from various polyclinics or hospital services of Istanbul Medical Faculty between December 2018 and December 2019 were included in this study. Brucellacapt test (Vircell, Spain) were used to diagnose the infection. Seropositivity was observed in a total of 18 patients (3,85 %). Seropositivity was significantly higher in male patients (p<0,05). Our study contributes to existing data on this infection. We believe that our results may also be important for raising awareness of risk groups.
Ethical Statement
The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine (Reference number: 955/2020).
