Abstract

Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection, which is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, is a public health problem for our country as well as all over the world. Awareness of young people, especially health care workers, needs to be increased in this regard. For this purpose, in our study, we planned this survey study in which the students of Vocational School of Health Services were included in order to determine the situation. In our study, 49.1 % of the participants stated that they were aware of HPV infection, 52.7 % of them stated that they had not heard of the HPV vaccine. The most correctly answered questions were that HPV can cause genital warts and cervical cancer. However, in general, correct response rates did not exceed 50 %. As a result, in our study, HPV awareness and vaccination rates were found to be at a very low level compared to the publications in both our country and international literature. There is a need for studies in order to raise awareness on this subject, especially educational activities.
