Akılcı İlaç Kullanımı

Year 2014, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 32 - 35, 01.10.2014

Abstract

Rational Use of Medicaments

Year 2014, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 32 - 35, 01.10.2014

Abstract

World Health Organization estimates that more than half of all drugs are inappropriately prescribed. Rational drug use is desribed as "patients receive medications appropriate to their clinical needs, in doses that meet their own individual requirements, for an adequate period, and at the lowest cost to them and their community" Steps for rational drug use are diagnosing correctly, screening prognosis, defining treatment targets, considering treatment options, prescribing correctly if necessary, and following up the patient. During this process, considering non-pharmacological approachs other than drugs; analyzing drugs for efficacy, suitability, safety, and cost, correct informing, and ensuring patient involvement are essential.
