The Rod-Sleeve surgical procedure for the treatment of thoraco lumbar unstable fractures

Abstract

Between April 1987 and June 1988, 25 patients with instable thoraco lumbar fractures were operated on, using the Rod-Sleeve Procedure, in Orthopadics and Traumatology department Istanbul University, Istanbul Medical Faculty. The goals of the procedure are reduction of displacement stabilization, neural decompression and early rehabilitation. The effects of the procedure on the angle of kyphosis, loss of vertebral body height, the amount of posterior displacement and the restoration of the spinal canal were deected by preoperative and postoperative radiographics and CAT scannings. The patients were assessed according to Frankel s classification of regarding the neurologic deficit. Neurologic defictis were present at 9 of the patients, and 8 of the patients with initial neurologic deficitis were able to walk with or without crutches after the operation.

Torako lomber bölgenin anstabil kırıklarının cerrahi tedavisinde Rod-sleeve yöntemi

Öz

Nisan 1987-Haziran l988 tarihleri arasında İstanbul Üniversitesi İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniğinde anstabil torakolomber bölge kırıklı 256 hastaya kırığın redüksiyonu, stabilizasyonu, nöral dekompresyon ve erken rahabilitasyon amaçları için ROD-SLEEVE yöntemiyle cerrahi tedavi uygulandı. Yöntemin kifoz açısı vertebra cismindeki yükseklik kaybı posterior deplasman miktarı ve spinal kanalın restorasyonu üzerine olan etkisi ameliyat öncesi ve sonrası çekilen grafiler ve BT çalışmaları ile tayin edildi. Olgularımızın 9 unda ameliyat öncesi nörolojik defist yönünden olgularımız Frankel sınıflamasına göre değerlendirildi. Nörolojik defistli olgularımızın 8 i desteksiz veya destekli yürüyebilecek kadar nörolojik iyileşme gösterdiler.
