Biomechanics and functional anatomy of meniscii

Abstract

Following menisectomies and especially total menisectomies, the functions of meniscii are either partially or totally elimenated. A variety of studies have been carried out regarding this subject. The results of the studies performed mostly correlate well with the clinical results. It is always necessary to take into consideration the important functions of meniscii in the knee joint. In other words, it should be a surgeon’s first principle to select the best surgical technique to be applied and to preserve the anatomical structure of the meniscii.

Meniskusların biomekaniği ve fonksiyonel anatomisi

Öz

Menisektomilerden ve bilhassa total menisektomilerden sonra meniskusların fonksiyonlarının bir bölümü veya tamamı ortadan kalkmaktadır. Bu konu ile ilgili çeşitli biomekanik çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmaların sonuçları çoğu kez klinik sonuçlarla uyumluluk göstermektedir. Meniskusların diz eklemindeki önemli fonksiyonlarını her an göz önünde tutmak gerekir. Başka bir değişle uygulanacak cerrahi tekniğin iyi seçilmesi ve meniskusların anatomik yapısının korunması, cerrahın ilk prensibi olmalıdır.
