Plica Syndrome a case of anterior knee pain

Abstract

Plica syndrome is an uncommon but clinically important condition that has come into prominence during the last decade with the wider use of the arthroscope. Any trauma can cause a normal synovial fold to become symtomatic. lts signficance lies in the fact that it simulates the more important and common internal derangements of the knee, especially the meniscus lesions, patellofemoral subluxation and chondromalacia patellae. For this reason, a careful assessment must be made to exclude other causes of anterior knee pain. Once its diagnosis has been made, treatment is simpIe and a dramatic recovery follows. lts importance is even more pronounced in the athlete. To our knowledge, no detailed reports on the subject have taken place in teh Turkish Orthopedic literature and this has Ied the author to make an extensive review of the current literature.

Plika sendromu: Bir ön diz ağrısı nedeni

Öz

Plika sendromu mutad olmayan fakat onemli bir durumdur . Artroskopun yaygın kullanımı ile ancak son 10-15 yıl içinde Ortopedi literatüründe yer almaya başlamıştır. Herhangi bir travma normal bir sinovyal plikanın semptomatik hale gelmesine neden olabilir. Asıl önemi, dizin daha sık görülen ve mutad patolojilerini, özellikle de meniskus lezyonları, patellofemoral subluksasyon ve kondromalazi patellayı taklit edebilmesidir . Bu nedenle, bu tanılar konmadan önce akla gelmeli ve araştırmalıdır. Tanısı konduktan sonra tedavisi basit iyileşme dramatiktir. Sendromun önemi sporcularda daha da belirgindir . Bildiğimiz kadanyla Türkçe Ortopedi literatüründe bu konuda detaylı bir yazı yer almamıştır. Bu durum otörü geniş bir literatür çalışması yapmaya yönelmiştir.
