The importance of radioisotopic findings in diagnosis and evaluation of femoral head avascular necrosis
Abstract
The 9 hips of 6 patients suffering from femoral head avascular necrosis have been treated and followed up between 1983-1988 in University of lstanbul Medical Faculty, Orthopaedics and Traumatology Departrnent. The vascularisation of the hips have been evaluated using radiocolloid scanning technique. The difference between traditional scanning technique using phosphated bone agent and radiocolloid scanning technique have been discussed. ln this study, all the operated and clinically painfull hips have been found avascular, using radiocolloid scanning technique also the two hips that have not been operated and painless were found to be avascular, using the same technique but this is accepted to be false negativ depending upon the same literatur findings of 40-45% false negativness. Evaluation of the results showed that this scanning technique is valuable in showing the vascularisation of the femoral head especially when asymmetric images have been found between the two hips of one patient.
