Experimental investigation of the effects of levamisole in prophylaxis of fat embolism syndrome
Abstract
Multipl fractures were made in rats to establish subclinical or clinical fat embolism. This expenrnental research was performed in two groups. Each group has 15 rats. Levamisole was given intraperitoneally to one group while saline solution was given to the second group. PO2, PCO2, pH and blood lipids of rats were measured 72 hours after injury, and lungs of rats were defected to define fat globules, histopatologically. Rats which were given levamisole had high blood O2 levels and low CO2 and lipid levels than the control group.
