High tibial osteotomy

Abstract

We have revieved 16 knees of 13 patients who had been treated with high tibial osteotomy for gonarthrosis in Department of Orthopaedics and traumatology, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine between 1970 and 1987, and who were available for final follow-up we report the short-term and the long-term results. When the group with a follow-up of 9.6 years was compared to the one with 16.2 months follow-up, we observed that the initial satisfactory results coult not be maintained in %17.5 of the cases. Good results were associated with residual valgus angles of 7 degrees or more. This indicates the importance of valgus overcorrection during the procedure. As a result. We believe that High Tibial Osteotomy is still an altemative to endoprosthesis.
