Treatment of infected femoral fractures by unilateral external fixators

Abstract

As a form salvage operation, treatment of femur fractures, which were previously undergone various interventions and had delay of union or no possibility of union because of an active infection were achieved by means of external fixators. The impressions we collected as a result of these treatments in this study which had few coses were evaluated on the basis of common features. The main purpose concerning both the patient and the orthopaedist is emphasized as the union of the fracture and getting rid of the discharge. Half-pin types of external fixators fixated the fracture ends on the far side of infected region as required tightness. It is discussed briefly concerning Wagner type external fixators. It is also emphasized that irrigation on fracture region atld replacement of cancellous bone graft is important.
