Interactions of intraarticular anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions and femoral notch

Abstract

In anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions of the knee position and alignment of the substitute to its surrounding femoral notch during knee motion is one of the factors determining the end results. During our study we intendend to oserve relationship of the ACL subtitutes with femoral notch in surgical technigues performed in our clinic in 6 cadaveric knees. When the technique sggested by Insall was performed lateral and roof of the femoral notch influenced the substitue adversely. During intraarticular placement of the middle third of patellar tendon substitute a significant adverse ralationship between notch and subsitute was not observed. When applied to cases who had anterior cruciate reconstruction structural and developmental changes of femoral notch can adversely affect long term results according to this position of anterior cruciate ligament substitutes and developemental changes of femoral notch should be considered to be major factors affecting long term results of reconstruction.
