Improving potential of acetabular dysplasia in older children

Abstract

Eight hips with acetabular dysplasia were followed up for a mean of 2 years 9 months (the shortest been 26 months. the longesi 41 months) No treatment was done The youngest of these patients was 3,5 years old and the oldest was 11 Three of these eight hips improved satisfactorily while the other five improved little or none. In the last group no worsening came about in the follow up period. In an older child with acetabular dysplasia, we saw that there is a chance of spontaneous improvement but little. Therefore, a hip with acetabular dysplasia having acetabulo-femoral congruity first should be followed up for two years. After that, pelvic osteotomy may be performed if we don't see satisfactory improvement.
