The effect of prosthesis position on knee score in total knee arthroplasty

Abstract

Between 1987 and 1990, 47 knees in 35 patients had undergone kinematic condyler posterior cruciate retaining total knee arthroplasty. 29 knee in which tibial and femoral components were placed properly and in 5° to 10° of valgus comprised group 1. 18 knee in which these criteria were not met comprised group 2. The patients were evaluated according to the criteria recommended by the Knee Society The average follow-up. was 13. 8 months (14. 2 months in group 1, 13. 4 months in group 2). it is concluded that. despite better results in group 1 , component alignement is effective on the early results only to a certain degree. Alignement of the components can increase the success rates only to same degree unless there is a significant malalignement of the components.
