A case of malignant tumor in the knee; reconstruction with Stanmore resection prosthesis

Abstract

A 15 year-old female patient was admitted with pain and swelling in her left knee and distal thigh. The knee had a 35 degrees flexion range, painful when attempted. Radiologically, a Iytic tumor in the distal third of the left femur which had expanded the bone entirely, containing the femoral condyles, invasing the subchondral bone, and sometimes destructing the cortex, was seen Histologic diagnosis was fusiform celled tumor with a low grade of malignancy. We decided to perform local resection and reconstruction in two stages. Local resection was perforrned and an intramedullary Küntscher nail was ınserted into the proximal femur and tibia. Mthylmethacrylate was used as spacer at the first satge. At the second stage, the Küntscher nail and the spacer was removed and the Stanmore resection type total knee prosthesis was applied.

Diz bölgesinde Stanmore rezeksiyon protezi ile rekonstrükte edilen bir malin tümör olgusu

Abstract

Sol diz ve distal uyluk bölgesinde şişlik ve ağrı yakınmaları ile başvuran 15 yaşında kadın hasta. Diz fleksiyonuna sahipti ve ağrılıydı. Radyolojik olarak sol femur distal uçta kemiği tamamen ekspanse eden, femur kondillerini içine alan ve subkondral kemiğe kadar ilerleyen, yer yer korteksi patlatan litik tümör saptandı. YapıIan biyopsi sonucunda histolojik tanının fusiform hücreli tümör olduğuna karar verildi. İki evrede lokal rezeksiyon ve rekonstrüksiyona karar verildi. Lokal rezeksiyon yapılarak inrramedüller Küntscher çivisi ile birlikte kemik çimentosu spacer olarak kullanıldı. İkinci evrede Küntscher çivisi ve kemik çimentosu çıkartıldı ve rezeksiyon tipi Stanmore diz protezi aplike edildi.
